Vacuum hose Replacement on 1983 SC
There have been several threads over the last few years of people asking for the size and length of the vacuum hoses required to replace all the existing hoses, but none of those threads have answers. I will try my luck nevertheless.
Since I need to order these off Pelican, and I live very far away, and I would hate to pay for shipping twice, any meaningful input on the required lengths and sizes would be appreciated so I don't come up short. A hose recently broke in half so I know that my hoses need to be replaced. Also, can most of these be replaced while the engine is in the car? Thanks!

I have the engine out of my '83 right now and am planning to do the same thing. Unfortunately I won't be home for another week. If you don't get an answer I will measure mine when I get back.
I have also been wondering about the type of replacement hose to use... I've seen some silicone hose used instead of the rubber hose with the outer braid. Wondering if anyone has any feedback on that.

First, I would like to state "I am no expert" but since we both have the MY 1983 911SC model, I may be able to help.
Second, Wayne has done a great job of revamping the website to help with this question you have. So, if you go to the main Pelican Parts website and choose the year of your car, 1983 911SC, then above in the search area type in Vacuum Hoses and click on search. It will bring up all the vacuum hoses that are used on our CIS 911SC 3.0L car. There are about ten (10) hoses listed, but you may not need all of them. Most of the vacuum hoses that I have replaced on my car are shorter than 3 feet, and these vacuum hoses are purchased by the meter (approx. 38inches). If you need more exact measurements, give me a day or two and I will post back here the lengths and the diameter/sizes you need. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys - I think this will be helpful for me and countless others.
I checked our host, however they sell the vacuum hoses by the meter and there is no indication as to the original length of the hoses.

That is the problem I ran into as well - doesn't tell you how much you need. I forgot to measure those before I left town so I couldn't add them to my order I just placed with Pelican. It never fails I forget something! ![]() I'm now going to be home briefly this weekend and then have to turn around again -- just long enough to sleep, unpack and repack the suitcase. I will do my best to get measurements then.

I'm pretty sure if you look at the PET, it will show the diameter hose and length you need for each one. I think that is how I figured out what to order when I replaced mine.

However, as I stated all CIS engine compartment vacuum hoses are shorter than the one meter length that Pelican sells. In fact, that is probably why they sell this by the meter for most of the CIS engine related stuff. When you get into the fuel delivery and venting systems, those hoses are of various lengths. Which are you looking for, just engine compartment?

Thanks for asking this, I had posed the same question last week. My situation is I just bought an 82 SC with the motor out & apart, and would like to take the opportunity to go through the chassis, engine bay and CIS system to replace all the rubber hoses (separate from oil-, fuel-, brake-, and a/c- hoses) while i have access and before they become the sources of driveability problems once I have my engine overhauled and in its rightful place. I figured maybe someone had come up with such a list. Perhapsthe sales guys at Pelican already have? I didn't call to ask yet. If the answer is as simple as, " you need 4 meters of 8mm cloth ID; 6 meters of 13mm ID, etc, that would be helpful, too. Thanks in advance, John in CT

I failed you.
I had every intention of measuring the vacuum hoses this morning and something came up and by the time I got dealing with that problem I had to get to the airport. I'll be back at the end of the week and I'll get it done. At least we'll have it for posterity. ![]()

No worries, sir! Time may be finite, but it's currently in greater supply than money. John

Thanks Tirwin - I tentatively placed an order for all sizes at 2 meters each

Reviving an old thread. I've checked the PET for my 82 SC and it's difficult to figure out which hoses/lengths/diameters I need. Many of the part numbers have changed or are no longer available. Did anyone (Tirwin?) ever itemize the various sizes of vacuum hose needed to replace everything?

Hmm the SCAT/SCEET stuff looks like ducting to use to replace the heating or similar tubing. Is that correct or I am looking at the wrong stuff?
I have found some of the things I need in the PET but it’s difficult to interpret the hoses sizes. The first vacuum hose on the page says “12 x 3,5” and has a number like 350mm. I assume that’s 12x3.5 with a length of 350mm? How do I interpret the 12x3,5? Is that inside and outside diameter in some kind of units? |

The hose sizing is pretty confusing. Sometimes the sizes are ODxID, but other times it seems the smaller number is the wall thickness.
I don't think 12x3.5 is a hose with a 3.5 mm ID. In this case it is the wall thickness. As another example, Pelican sells a genuine Porsche fuel tank breather hose in 12x2.5, and there again, 2.5 mm is the wall thickness. But Pelican also sells a cloth-covered ContiTech 7x3.5 vacuum hose for my car, where 3.5 mm is the ID. They also have a Cohline cloth-covered fuel hose in 15x9, where 9 mm is the ID. From what I can tell, if you buy a genuine Porsche hose, the small number is the wall thickness. If you by a Cohline or Contitech, the numbers are ODxID. BelMetric also has a great selection of metric fuel and vacuum hoses, with really clear descriptions and photographs. Mark

I bought the silicone vacuum hose from Amazon. It’s sold by NXS Motorsports.
It’s 9/64”or 3.5mm in diameter. It comes in 3 colors - black, red and blue - and I ordered all 3. It looks like each color came in a 10’ piece which was more than enough to do the job.

The NXS stuff looks pretty high quality and it’ll work for some of the pieces I need. One specific piece I’m try to replace though, is for the brake booster. This is a much larger diameter hose. Any ideas on a replacement?
