Engine compartment opening latch not working
Hello I am new to the forum. I have a 1999 911 Carrera, which I drive occasionally (400 miles a year). Yesterday I took it out for a spin and on my way home the temp gauge spiked up and temp light started blinking, and I immediately pulled over and saw steam coming from the rear.
While waiting for the tow truck, I tried to do some prelim as to what was causing the problem, but when I pulled the engine lever to open the engine compartment, I was unable to get it too open (lever was slack) I could see the wire and it was slack also so pulling the lever would do no good. Today I tried to get the plastic cover of the levers and not sure what is holding down, but was unable to do so. Also tried pulling the wire with needle noose pliers while some one pushed the hood down, but got nothing from that. I dont want to take it to the dealer until I could rule out simple issues such as needed coolant or fan not working. ANY suggestions are welome |

Hello and welcome to the forum! Take a look at the link below to an earlier thread where this is discussed. According to one member, the emergency pull cable is in the PASSENGER side headlight, but you can see it if you take off the right front wheel, take out the plastic keepers in the wheel well lining, and peel back the lining. Look up at the headlight...over on the left side of it at the back...and you'll see a silver braided cable. With a flashlight, the cable is easy to spot. It's actually running into the headlight receptacle, but you can snag it and pull it out so that the wire loop at the end can be grasped.....then pull on it and the front trunk lid will hopefully pop up. - hope this helps you out a bit and best of luck!
