Re-designed New URO Windshield Seal Review

Further to a recent thread http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/994413-trouble-uro-targa-bar-gasket-seal.html URO Parts sent me their new and re-designed windshield seal (part: 911 541 225 03)

I just had the new seal installed yesterday and it looks really good.

The new seal is wider then the previous version and it's a soft rubber material.

My old seal appeared to be original and although it did not leak, it was not fitting well at all. The corners had gaps and the trim was sticking out as well. Although it has no relevance to its functionality it looked ugly due to a previous paint job when they painted over the edges. It was showing its age and it was cracked and disintegrating.

Here are some pictures of the old seal

They cut out the old seal and removed the glass

After the glass was removed, it appears that the windshield seal had been replaced before. The body was in good shape underneath all the dirt though.

They cleaned off the old residue on the glass and put put the new seal around it.

The dirt and old residue was also removed from the car and the windshield was installed.

Do you have an antennae in the windshield? Any pics of how you ran the wire thru the seal?

uwanna 05-30-2018 10:51 AM

Looks like a great improvement! Perhaps now we have a more affordable
replacement versus the high priced PAG seal. Thanks URO for your
attention to this product. Now, are you also working on improving the rear seal?

pmax 05-30-2018 10:59 AM

This recent thread has the related technical info on that seal as well.

That's really great news. I will buy that seal now - and sell off my new unused old-version URO seal I bought years ago.

I can only hope that they fix their other products with such design work. I can only hope that they try to improve their awful Porsche master cylinders. Who knows? With a little work they might have something going now.

Here are some pictures of the finished installation with the new seal and original windshield.
It is wider, and fits well all around including the corners. It molds around to the body and no gaps anywhere.

I would also like to thank URO Parts for providing me with the new seal. I was concerned using their product for my windshield which is why I asked the question (in the other thread), and I am really glad I did. Seems like they addressed all the issues that I have seen on this forum that a lot of people have and they did a good job with the new and improved version.

This is the picture I have that shows the antenna. The end of the wire with the connector was not properly attached (probably during the last install) and it was soldered back on and shrink wrapped.

Thanks for sharing! Glad to see that they're taking the time to produce a quality product.

Is the new Uro seal in stock now at (or through) Pelican or still going through the previous seal iteration?

tdw28210 05-30-2018 01:05 PM

Any information on part or production run numbers to look for to make sure we buy this NEW version?

4flyboy 05-30-2018 01:13 PM

Don't mean to be a negative Ned but my other BIG concern with aftermarket rubber parts is longevity.

For example the axle boots that Porsche put on my Carrera lasted 30 years, the replacements were shredded in 2 years with very limited driving.

We need to pay attention to how this seal ages, particularly in the sun/weather?

I replaced my original windshield seal with an obscenely priced Porsche original part because I didn't ever want to do THAT again.

URO has left a bad taste in my mouth a couple of times, I jumped at the price, but it costs me more in the long run.

The labor that this shop charged to put two guys on this job is a big factor in the decision.

How does one know they get the newer, redesigned seal? Are the part numbers different?

dfhtrhjn 05-31-2018 08:20 AM

I was thinking about replacing my windshield on one of my 911s because the glass is strange and foggy in the corners. I'm curious to know how to tell/order the updated seal.

Slanski62 05-31-2018 08:26 AM

While they’re at it, URO should take a look at their rear quarter window seals.

Techno Duck 05-31-2018 08:44 AM

What shop did the glass install? I want to do my front and rear glass seals.

DonNewton 05-31-2018 08:02 PM

I'd like to piggy-back on Techno Duck's last entry. I've had two body shops (pseudo-reputable) tell me that they won't touch this. Now that I'm in my "golden years", I'm not so impulsive to think that I can do this myself. . .

Doubt longevity is going to be the biggest issue.. Finding a seal that actually works is the biggest. The factory seal sucks. The aftermarket ones weren't any better! They all were almost a bit small.... If this one fits like the pictures, we have a winner.

The shop is City Wide Auto Glass in Kearny Mesa. Ask for Mark.

The pictures show how it fits. These are not promotional photos. I took them after the install.
