Worth taking the Porsche to Ireland?

I need to go to Ireland for work and have decided to extend my stay to about 4 days. I'm going to Belfast and Ballymena but intend to base myself in or around Dublin.

Three basically simple questions

Am I likely to have any trouble with an English Registered Porsche in this area? (I went a few years ago and remember an incident when kids threw stones at my Golf in a small southern Ireland village)

Are the roads the sort that I would enjoy?

Can I use / do I need my radar detector?

Thanks

I know the coast road around the north is excellent - unfortunately i wasn't in the porsche at the time. you should be ok in Ballymena but depending on where you stay/park in Belfast you could be tempting fate. Didn't have any probs with a (private plated) uk BMW in belfast (Ravenhill area) /port stewart, but they're not the most UK unfriendly areas....the south in particular is obviously a different matter.

You might be better off checking whether there's a PCGB chapter near the areas and asking them for advice- theres a PCGB forum now at http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com .

Good luck & enjoy the guiness.

I was in Ireland last month, in and mostly around the Dublin area, south to Waterford and a bit west to Kilkenny. I would have loved to have had my Porsche on those back road. They're narrow and twisty, not fast, but fun.

Bob

Do you recommend anywhere - we can't get in to our hotel on Saturday night because of the rugby so we're looking for somewhere to go for a nice drive, some decent scenery, and a good place to stay (with secure parking!!)

Kaiser

Thanks for the suggestion - I've posted on the PCGB site - 1 positive reply so far!
