1989 911 Speaker Wiring Question
Hi,
I hope to install the original optioned CD-2 head unit in my 89 and wanted to better understand why I see four 2-pin speaker connectors both behind the dash and under the seat. First, can anyone from the Pelican brain trust confirm if the 89 911 would have come pre wired for both the CD-2 w Amp, and the Reno SQR? I am suspecting such since the currently installed modern head unit appears to directly drive the rear-speakers by tapping into the male side of the 2-pin connectors under the dash (yellow & red plugs), but then goes on to use the front-speaker 2-pin connectors under the seat along with an amp (male black and white plugs snipped off running to 2-channel amp). Also, I was able to see a stock 9-pin DIN and amp power supply connector under the seat. Second, with the aim of installing the CD-2 using the stock 9-pin DIN, will I have to reconnect the yellow and red 2-pin connectors under that dash to complete each circuit so that the yellow and red 2-pin connectors under the seat are usable? (I have a new amp as well as a 9-PIN din to RCA adaptor in hand for under the seat). Thanks! |

For anyone possibly interested, I was able to dig into the wiring of my 89 this morning and the 2-pin speaker connectors behind the dash do indeed, when connected, make a continuous circuit to the 2-pin connectors under the passenger seat. I finally have the originally optioned CD-2 head unit installed (much prefer the stock look), along with a new small amp to which music can be streamed via bluetooth.
