I've strayed from my intent to keep my car 100% "original," as I've found there are things from the later model 911's that I like. One of these items is the later model valance with integrated fog lights.
Can the valance from an '84 and later model Carrera be bolted directly in place of the valance on a '78? Is it likely that my wiring harness already has the wiring for the switch and fogs, or will I have to run a completely new electrical "system"? Can anyone refer me to a tech article where this was done? Thanks! ------------------ Michael '78 911SC Euro |

Unfortunately I can't say for sure, but I'm pretty sure the later valance will bolt on just fine, I've seen other's with it done. If you don't currently have fog lights you may have some of the wiring, but not all. It shouldn't be too hard to add.
Just trying to get you a quick answer, hopefully you'll now get a precise one. ------------------ Steve Rennlist Member PCA Member '88 targa |

Michael,
If you are going to the trouble of changing out the valence, you might look into putting an aftermarket version that has an outlet for the external oil cooler in the front. Depends on where you live and if your oil temps are OK or on the boarderline already. I was at a shop a bit ago and saw a car the same year as mine with a aftermarket valence that really looked good, got rid of the massive bumper and gave him an external oil cooler mount, which dropped temps by 20-30 degrees over stock. Between saving the weight and helping the oil temps, I am thinking about it now. JA |

Yes the Carrera valence will bolt right to it.
