back dated heat exchanger question:

On a 79SC with back dated exchangers, I having a heck of a time hooking up heater hoses on the input side of exchangers. It appears that angle of the bends needed are too extreme for the material of the hose. Is there a formed hose that is needed? It is getting mighty frigid here in colorado! thanks in advance.

I had the same problem with my 78SC. Go to Lowes or Home Depo and get some flexible duct venting in the HVAC department. Cut to fit. It makes the bend.

It's a battle even on pre-74 cars. I found it easiest to first attach to the heat exchanger and then wrestle it onto the fan housing.

read my tech article....you have to attach the hose then the heat exchanger to the engine

DR-
I had the same problem. Try as I could, I couldn't get the OEM paper-covered hoses to work with SSI heat exchangers. Stoddard sells a product that they call "super hose" for around $9 per foot. The hose is black, very flexible and is high-temp proof. The only drawback is that it does not have finished ends. Also, Performance Products sells loprene hoses for this application that are rather pricey (around $30 per hose) but do have finished ends. On my car (72 "T"), the hoses were each 18 long. Go with the super hose- it's cheaper, looks right, and won't melt.
