FS 2.7 MFI Motor

I purchased this here last year from a very reputable seller, with intentions of dropping it in an RS build but plans have changed so I am putting up for sale. See the back story and details here:
https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-used-parts-sale-wanted/943336-fs-2-7-rs-motor.html

I am looking for $18,000 plus shipping. It is in the crate and ready to go.

Thanks - Chris

What is the engine case number type? 911/52, 911/53 or 911/83?

Jeff,
I am not sure that an un-numbered case includes a type number but I will look at the Kessler invoice and if nothing there I will try to get to the warehouse tomorrow and take a look.

That said see the link for the back story on this as it has all the information I have at the moment.

Thanks - Chris

Chris,
I looked at the old thread there is not much info there. It's my understanding un-numbered cases came with engine type number so any buyer is going to need that type of info to pay that kind of money. At this point don't even know if it's a 7R case. If you can update it will help you find a buyer.

Jeff,
Thanks for telling me what a buyer will need to pay the money I am asking. I am the recent buyer and not totally wet behind the ears. Three main things helped make my decision to buy this and I hope my buyer will agree/realize the same;

1) I did my research and found the seller is a knowledgeable, honest no BS Porsche guy.
2) I wanted an RS engine and couldn't make sense of buying a complete, fully documented and intact RS motor that I would pay $48K and up (and even those I couldn't be sure of) so this seemed the next best choice from what was available.
3) I couldn't build one from the ground up for the purchase price of this one nor did I want to wait.

That said, I already stated that I would look tomorrow so I find myself somewhat questioning your motivation. If you have any interest in purchasing it or to say anything other than "Ill take it", I respectfully ask that you PM me.

Thank you,
Chris

Does this engine have any real 1973 RS engine parts on it or is it an engine built to 1973 RS specs? It seems to be the latter based on prior comments about the injection pump and cam towers but difficult to tell. However, the ad does state it is a 73 RS motor so it would be great to clarify this here.

Based on the statement of jtsas whom Stophos bought the motor from, it seems most of the engine is an original 73 RS. Original sellers post below, relevant statements in bold. I think these statements give a lot of information. It seems to me this is an original 73RS motor with a replacement case and some mods.

"Short and sweet. This was the original motor to a 73RS I purchased in 1990. The original case was broken and a new unnumbered case was supplied for reassembly by Kessler in Germany. After I sold car to a friend a numbered motor was found and I was able to buy back this motor. I ran it in my 71S for approx. 10 yrs. w/ no issues and removed to begin restoration of the 71S. I was hoping to find a donor project LWB but prices have changed my plans. Please, serious inquires, don't really want to talk shop, but will supply Kessler build sheet to potential buyers. Someone will be very happy with this motor. Asking $20k plus shipping or pick up in central Calif."

If you can post a pic of the throttle bodies they have a number unique to RS engines since the idle air passages are 4.0mm instead of smaller like other engines. Might help your sale. I don’t think what you are asking is out of line, GLWS.

Either way, seems like a reasonable price to pay for a 2.7 mfi motor that’s plug and play.

Great deal for a motor with 019 pump and hardware. As long as its a 7r case which it appears to be.

From the build invoice - Translated from German

Cylinder heads were overhauled at Spezial-Firma.
(Note: the defective housing with the engine No. 66310XX was against an original Porsche housing
Spare part no. 901 101 101 7 R + 901 101 102 7 R replaced and no engine no.

The injection pump was overhauled by Bosche and rebuilt to Carrera 2.7 and NR. 019eingeschlagen)

But it's originally an E pump? And they re-stamped the tag 019?

I assume so if an 014 pump is a 911e pump designation. I believe the actual pumps are the same with the only difference being the space cam. Moot point I guess since it is was it is and it is priced accordingly.

If the buyer wants to go crazy I do have a freshly rebuilt factory 019 pump with a full set of new matched MFI injectors. Price would be dependent on the value of the intake/ throttle bodies which would not be needed for this motor and I would sell separately. I would guess somewhere near $10k. If someone wanted the pump with the intake along with this motor I would add $12.5k. FWIW that would include a RS fuel console. (Not sure that is different than any other MFI fuel console)
