Original in Package 1965-1974 Orange Bar Porsche Hood Emblem

This is the emblem all you concourse guys have been waiting for! This is an unused, unrestored, original 1965-1974 orange bar emblem that is still in the original packaging! This emblem is absolutely perfect in every way and is an excellent choice for any early 911, 912, or 914. The 901, , and AR markings on the back are obviously in perfect condition and are visiable without opening the package, I just could not get the camera to capture it because of the angle. If you have spent a considerable amount of money restoring your Porsche or if you have a concourse Porsche in need of that finishing touch, you will find nothing better than this original, unopened, orange bar Porsche emblem. If you have any questions please email me. I will accept the best offer plus $12 for shipping. My email address is: boydam.jmu@gmail.com

looks sort of like it, but thats a repro. If you're looking for a repro, tweeks was offering that same emblem for 36.99. The one above is an original one from 1965-1974. there are a lot of differences between the two. the repro does not have the correct markings on the back, the face is not dimpled the same way, the side of the emblem is shaped differently, the lip around the back is not as deep...it does the trick, but is nowhere near as nice...

It's all about 'patina'. Yours is going to need 30 years of it before it will be right for the 'concours guys'.

My guess is that this could bring $800 on eBay. LeeH may still have the names of the bidders on his similar crest that ultimately brought $1500.

Good luck.

I guess we'll see if Lee's sale was a fluke or if the market will bear another $1,000-plus hood crest. Lee asked the question last week whether the bottom has fallen out of the market for these as recent prices appear to have stabilized.

Boydam, please keep us posted on the sale. I would be interested in the crest but at nowhere near the price that it will probably be worth to someone else.

Good luck.

P.S. The fact that we are even discussing the "market" for original hood crests indicates how bizarre the early 911 hobby has become.

Yah, you gotta put this on ebay if the last new one went for that kind of dough., and post auction # here. I would love to fallow it too...

Just curious - why is there a market for four-figure NOS emblems when you can get a Heywood enamels restoration for $250-350? Are people not aware of this option, or is it not deemed 'correct'? I got one and am extremely pleased with it, but I can't say that I've seen an NOS one to compare it to.

Interesting that in the photo on the eBay auction, the upper part of the crest is sharply curved... I'm not accusing our boy, but I wonder if there's someone making knock-offs using counterfeit Porsche-branded backing cardboard?

last time i checked, no one in concours has had their crests ripped off the car to check the backside for validity. (those guys might hack you to pieces w/ their toothbrushes if you did that )

ps. subscribed just for laughs...

Look at 'view sellers other items' on the auction.

The 'restored' ones do look different from this one (see the 'grain' size on the gold background).

The emblem above has been sold...I have one more that I've listed on ebay:

EBAY AUCTION

I also have some restored emblems on there if anyone is interested for 100. Compared to the NOS emblem, the dimpling is a little larger. This is because I resurface the face and restore the dimpling due to it being worn down, which makes the pattern a little larger. Track the auction, and lets see what the market decides the NOS should go for...

Forgive me, but that sounds like total bull****. No way would "resurfacing" result in fewer bumps in a given area.

On your badges, the background texture is wrong, and the relationship between the 901 and the R is wrong.

You've been selling a LOT of these on eBay - where are you getting so many "original" badges?

The first picture is a known original (took it off a car myself, with one owner and known history).
The second picture is the one NOS packed on eBay.
You make yor conclusions. I know why I am leaving the scene.

We've been down this road a couple of times, but here is what a real NOS one looks like. Someone said less "bling" in the gold and more goosebumps, that's about right.
