Issue with Rusty Heap
8/23- My response to all the posts below: "In response to funds to help ship the whole panel....thanks guys....but that is not the point...I have plenty of money......I suppose I was just venting my frustration....I'm not seeking/wanting/needing monetary or physical(pickup etc) support...I have gotten moral support from you guys and I suppose thats what I needed, thanks."
OK Pelicans here is my dirty laundry: I am on deployment in Iraq right now. My Porsche was in a hit and run right before I left. I wanted to fix it when I came home on leave in Dec. My mother is mailing checks for me and receiving the parts. She is 59 years old and my main goal in this process was to make this painless for her. I wanted a whole quarter panel to include lockpost and and the window frame. I was willing to pay more for a special cut. Rusty Heap responded he could do it for around $300. I bump the price to $350 to be fair for cost of blades and grinding wheels. Payment made via my check mailed by my Mother. Legitimate shipping issue occurs. Originally it was to be UPS'd to my Mother's house. Things change as it is too big and the only option is freight. No good for my Mother. I will not have her drive to a Bad part of Memphis to pick it up. Plus more money is now involved. I am offered a refund I accept. I get no email response from Rusty Heap. I offer for him to keep $50 for his expenses and he emails back basically resending the refund. He also suggests I take a normal cut that does not include the window frame. I am able to convince my brother with has a newborn to pick it up (whole panel including window frame) at Yellow Freight. I do not get a response from Rusty Heap about this. So I say to myself screw it. Cut your losses. I agree to the removal of the window frame. I know pairs of SC quarters sell on Pelican for $200-250 all the time. I accept the $200 loss and move on, or so I thought. I am not in a rush. As I said I need this by december. I do email Rusty Heap for a shipping update and get it. Today I am browsing the boards and I see this posted by Rusty Heap: F/S: '82 911SC rear left fender qtr panel The original text is here : "For Sale - left rear qtr panel total fender cut off my 1982 911SC.From door jamb all the way back to the rear tail light housing, bottom window lip all the way down to the bottom of car side valanceMore pictures available on request.$100 or best offer, plus shipping from Seattle.I take paypal.PM me with your zip code and I'll quote shipping via UPS ground" So before he even ships my Quarter panel he sells the mirror twin to mine for $200 or so less. I see this as total insult. I could take losing $200 on this. I can't take it being flaunted in my face. The respectful thing would have been to wait a few weeks after mine arrives, then post it. So I guess I am now insulting him by posting this....... So thats my issue. Thats all my drama. I have aired my dirty laundry. Opinions? Comments? Advice? Etc.... Shelby Pruden normally Memphis, TN currently Q-West, Iraq Below is our email exchanges. I did not include the freight quotes. I have blocked out my family names and addresses. The rest is original: ] Dave, I am not stupid. I browse the boards all the time. I know SC quarters sell in pairs for $200-250 plus shipping all the time. The cut you forced me to take after revoking your refund option is really only worth $100 to $150. You know I was willing to pay more for the special cut. You knew up front that's what I wanted. You know I am not happy with the way things turned out. OK thats fine. I overpaid, cool. I compromised for the sake of peace and harmony. I have warfare as my Job, I don't need it in my hobbies. So my injury is $200. I accepted that. Then you post the opposite side quarter. The sister panel to mine and flaunt $100 before you even ship mine. Hands down this is an insult. No other way for me to take this. So now that you have injured and insulted me, will you do anything to make this right (other than just shipping the cut I did not want) ? Shelby Date: Wed, 19 Aug 2009 12:27:11 -0600 Shelby Nope haven't forgotten about you and yes you're getting a fender insured for $350. Packet well wrapped in a blanket and about 8 million shipping styrofoam peanuts. I'm still in the process of boxing it. I just took this photos 2 minutes ago. I don't think it'll fit into the full sized upright freezer/refrigerator box that I got for it, so now have a HUGE sheet of heavy cardboard that I'm going to cut down into a shipping box. Dood this sheet of cardboard is about 9' x 10' .........ginormous! So, I still need to cut the window frame off, then see if it'll fit diagonally into the freezer box, or more likely, cut down the huge sheet of cardboard into a worthy shipping box. Even without the window frame it's the size of this whole qtr panel that is being the shipping challenge. no worries, you're getting your fender pampered and well taken care of. Due to you not coming back home for another couple months, this just hasn't been on my front burner of utmost urgent priority, but I will get it boxed up ASAP. Stay in touch, I'll do the same. dave Date: Wed, 19 Aug 2009 15:46:58 +0000 Dave, Do you have a tracking number for me yet? You did/will insure it for $350 right? Thanks, Shelby Subject: RE: Cut it and UPS it Date: Fri, 14 Aug 2009 13:32:30 -0600 Shelby, sorry to not get back to you sooner but I was out teaching scuba diving class-room and open water sessions all week, been pulling 12-14-16 hour days, and today is the first time in a week I've been able to access email. I'll get your panel cut down, boxed up, and will send you a UPS confirmation number to track the shipment. It should be at your Moms house middle to end of next week. Stay safe over there in the sand box. Thanks again for your Service, pass that on to all your fellow troops too, Americans do appreciate and keep your sacrifices in our thoughts frequently. dave Dave, You didn't respond to my last email regarding Yellow Freighting it to my brother. So, just cut it as I have marked and UPS the quarter. UPS it to: H**** R***** ************** Memphis, TN 38122 Shelby I talked to my brother.... From: shelby pruden (resolvewithin@hotmail.com) Sent: Tue 8/11/09 3:39 PM To: porscherewards@hotmail.com Dave, I talked to my brother. You can freight the quarter panel in his name and he will pick it up at the Yellow Freight Terminal in Memphis. He says he can get it in his saturn station wagon. Ship the panel in his name: W***** B***** ********** I'll get you his address as soon as he emails me back (he moved right before I deployed) Shelby -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: porscherewards@hotmail.com To: resolvewithin@hotmail.com Subject: FW: YRC Quote Letter (98004123) Date: Mon, 10 Aug 2009 10:22:54 -0600 Yellow freight is just too expensive for Residential Delivery Curb Side comes to $81 extra, so total shipping of the whole qtr panel is $240 via yellow freight. ouch. Shelby, do you really need the whole upper window area? That's going to be a pain to splice into your existing car in my opinion. Why not just replace the damaged area of tin of your lower panel and flare? Cut it at the lower edge of the window under the rubber surround gasket and you'll be splicing in the door jamb either way with or without the window? I just don't see the advantage of replacing all the way up to the upper rain gutter rail on your car. Seems like a lot more work for you or your body guy. What do you think about my suggestion of something like the photo attached.? UPS will do the shipping if the box is only 24" tall instead of 40", and no more money involved. dave Dave, Here's the deal: 1) Originally priced at $300 shipped. $200 for the fender $100 to ship. I kicked in an extra $50(my idea) after our emails of your costs. The deal was $350ish shipped not $350ish plus any unforseen costs. $325-$375 is $350ish, $350ish is not $430-$550 2) Shipping goes up. You need an extra $70 to ship to a dock. The logistics issues as I am in Iraq, my mother is 59, other family members are not an option, most of my friends are female, and I am the guy every calls to pick up/ move something. There is no one I would feel right asking to pick it up(brother has a newborn etc....) Then extra $70 to ship to her house....This is worth $350 to me not $500. 3) Damage in shipping freight? UPS pays no prob, Fedex pays no prob...Isn't truck frieght Liabillity carried by the shipper or reciever? Another downside. 4) You offered a full refund option. I accepted. 5) The next day, I offer to pay for your costs(my idea again). $50 or more I offer. 6) You email about you being in a bind? Why would you offer a refund if you are not willing to do it? I have been reasonable in this. I have offered money after money. I am willing to take a loss of $50ish on this to be fair. You said you were would refund it in full, showing your willingness to take a loss. I have explained why I am not interested in the "new" deal. Answer this- Why are you not willing to take a loss now? What has changed since your email? 7) A shipped price was agreed on and accepted. I have taken a loss on webdeals before as I had misjudged my shipping fees. Bottom line for me: Please ship my mother the complete quarter panel to her house being paid for already or mail her a check for $300. Thank you, Shelby

From: porscherewards@hotmail.com To: resolvewithin@hotmail.com Subject: fender and shipping Date: Fri, 7 Aug 2009 21:01:55 -0600 Shelby. No I don't want any issues between us either, but by turning down and now not wanting the custom cut fender after the fact is putting me in a bind. I sold the roof section to a guy who wanted the whole thing with both rear qtr windows, but I said "no this section is presold" and I had to take a big hit on the roof section pricing because of it. I guess I don't know why you suddenly don't want the whole qtr section? The shipping costs, the freight method, or? I'm slammed busy this whole weekend teaching scuba diving classes, and just went up to canada and back today for 14 hours on a salmon fishing trip so I'm tired after 6 hours on the road. I'm still game to send you the panel and work with you on the shipping costs as I've got alot of time and labor tied up in this cut for you. Let me think about it over the weekend about what we can do........ dave From: resolvewithin@hotmail.com To: porscherewards@hotmail.com Subject: keep $50 Date: Sat, 8 Aug 2009 01:09:23 +0000 Dave, I don't want any issues between us on this. Please make the check out to me Shelby Pruden. Her address is: H******************* ***************** Memphis, TN 38122 Thanks, Shelby Dave, Just send my Mom a check. Shelby From: porscherewards@hotmail.com To: resolvewithin@hotmail.com Subject: RE: Shipping Issues - Passenger Quarter Panel OFF the car Date: Thu, 6 Aug 2009 15:43:15 -0600 You might check to see exactly where the local yellow freight dock is in your local town, yes if it's in South Memphis then your mom shouldn't go there to ghetto land. Or, I can check and see how much it is for them to drop freight it to your front yard/driveway. It was $160 extra for both pick-up at my place AND shipped to your place, so maybe it's 1/2 that for them to drop it off at your curb if I take it to their dock. Sorry man. yeah a hassle on both ends. Any of your friends got a truck or SUV you can send down? Or, I can ship one week prior to you coming back in when-ever it was, November / December, and it'll be on the dock so they'll have it so you could pick it up in person then...........or we can still ship it to your front yard. I can call back yellow freight and see what the drop off fee would be. Cheers mate, this is a mint complete fender/window I KNOW you'll love, we can work through this...... dave From: resolvewithin@hotmail.com To: porscherewards@hotmail.com Subject: RE: Shipping Issues - Passenger Quarter Panel OFF the car Date: Thu, 6 Aug 2009 21:05:00 +0000 Dave, ****.... The $70 is not an issue, its my 59 year old mother driving to south memphis (read ghettooooooooo) to pick it up. I will not even ask her to do that. Ok so how much money are you out right now? Shelby From: porscherewards@hotmail.com To: resolvewithin@hotmail.com Subject: Shipping Issues - Passenger Quarter Panel OFF the car Date: Thu, 6 Aug 2009 14:10:03 -0600 Shelby. I'm running into shipping issues due to the size of the box..........I was afraid of this. Box is going to be 55 pounds, 75" long x 16" wide x 40 inches tall. UPS or Fedex won't touch it as it's too big. Well Fedex will ship it as freight, for $900.58, so I think we both will take that option off the table. Yellow Freight, a trucking company / ground freight (that I used to ship my whole 965 pound engine/tranny to south carolina) is our next best option. They want $163.88 for freight. And it'd most likely take 7-9 days to get it to you. Sooooooo, I know you paid me $350 for the fender and shipping as a whole. But I also was thinking that shipping was going to be maybe $70-80 bucks, not double that. I'll be going through $30 of shipping peanuts to pad the fender well and I'll eat that cost, but would you send me another $70 towards the shipping so we'll split it? I'm having to drive 1.5 hours down to the freight office, 3 hours round trip so this isn't my favorite shipping method. You'll also have to pick up the box at the local Yellow Freight loading dock. Sorry man, if you know of any other way to get it shipped to you cheaper from my ZIP 98294 I'm open for new ideas. By dropping it off and picking it up at the Yellow Freight shipping dock, we're saving another $162 that they'd charge for curb side pickup/delivery. And if you want to cancel due to costs, I understand too and I'll mail your mom back a full refund $350 check, but it's the shipping that is costing the money that is going out of both our pockets. Let me know how you want to proceed. I'll send you a seperate email with their shipping quote so you see the facts and data. Couple more cuts and I could almost fit the pieces in a rubbermaid garbage can. I'm going out shopping for bike shipping boxes today, and will try and get it shipped out later this week or first part of next. I'm hoping that UPS won't charge an "oversized" box fee. What's your Moms shipping zipcode again and I'll get a accurate quote. dave

From: porscherewards@hotmail.com To: resolvewithin@hotmail.com Subject: RE: Passenger Quarter Panel an CUTING Date: Tue, 4 Aug 2009 13:54:34 -0600 Shelby. Current update. My whole roof got cut off over the weekend, and I've only got about 8-12" left of the hardest part to cut and your rear qtr panel will be free. It's the main frame hidden behind the exterior tin (around the jacking point) that is causing me the headache. Time to pull the torch out to cut the jacking point in half, but need my wife there to hold up your fender so it just doesn't drop.......... So, maybe about another 1/2 hour or 1 hour and your fender will be free. Then time to go box shopping, and then get an accurate weight and shipping quote. cheers, keep your head down over there. dave There is no rush on my end for this panel. I will get you paymant ASAP. I go home for leave in Dec. so thats the drop dead date for me on this. I didn't consider time and materials on your end. I know you said $300 ish shipped, I think $350 ish shipped is more fair. Porn, we got plenty even though its banned. Alcohol is banned too. Funny thing is what is pefectly legal an Army Base in the states is banned here. Damn muslim country. What is the world coming to? You can't go to war with pinups and liquor anymore????..LOL Next they will want wars without any weapons.......... Thanks, Shelby BTW you don't happen to have a ducktail or 76 turbo style tail do ya? From: porscherewards@hotmail.com To: resolvewithin@hotmail.com Subject: RE: Passenger Quarter Panel and... Date: Thu, 9 Jul 2009 09:51:06 -0600 Hey Shelby. First off, THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE IN IRAQ!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers Mate! Yes I've got a 1982SC I'm cutting up, so you're looking for a rear right qtr panel complete from door post with the complete door latch/jamb "b" pillar, up and over to the roof maybe 4" inward, then down along the right rear window "c" pillar, and maybe even the engine compartment tin insides, then around down by the rear right tail light assembly? (sounds like somebody slid into something slideways and took out your whole right rear of the car? - grins) See my photos, and mark them up in photoshop or paint, to show me the cut lines. I can send a photo of the roof top too if you want, or I just give you lots of metal that completely encompasses the right rear passenger window. See how I cut off the LEFT rear for a guy, for some detail of what you'd be getting all that, but also the rear window and roof line plus meat up top. You can mark up that photo showing the roof too. I'm wondering if it'd be easier to cut out if I even give you the right rear interior panel too and cut up the rear seat side and up over to the lower corner of the rear window? (I've cut out the rear seat buckets, so it'd go up along that side cut line) This is going to take a long time to cut out. I know as I just did the rear seat and that rear left qtr panel. The longitudinal frame of the uni-body is a nightmare to work around. I went through $20 in materials alone in saws-all blades and 3" cut-off wheels as well as this cut of yours will honestly take me 6-7 hours to get it out cleanly. So let me think about your suggested $200 for the parts. I'll have to go buy a bicycle shipping box for your panel, so that's another $~15 for the box, and once I get the panel off I can get an accurate quote of shipping via UPS if you give me your zip. Sorry my rear reflector and right rear taillight housings have sold, but I can cut and ship your tin. long email note, but wanted to get this straight of the exact cuts you want...........I do like to take care of people and do a custom cut to their needs/requirements. sooooooooo mark up the photos, and send 'em back over to me. I'm thinking by the time I do the cut, buy some more saws-all blades and cut-off wheels as I'm out of both now, then buy a box and UPS ground shipping it to you, it'll be around $300 to get it to you. Let me know if this works. I take paypal. thanks again for your service in Iraq, need any bikini photos of hot gals sent your way to keep your mind sane and share with your fellow troops in the dust bowl over there? let me know and some PG-13 or R photos can easily get sent your way of beach babes in bikinis. grins. I'll take care of you! shoot me an email back with marked up photos and let me know if we're on the same wavelength. shelby, go to uship.com and make an offer to ship your part. I bought a tub from a pelican this week and it was moved from NC to south ga for 150.00 and also bought a full roller from chicago and had it moved for 300. to ga. all you need is a small corner to slide the quarter into. rusty heap can pay and everyones happy, well almost...good luck with uship, its sooo cheap.

Dude's in Iraq, in harm's way. Let's let him focus on staying safe and start a shipping jar. If someone will handle collections, I'll throw the first $20 in. His mom driving somewhere to get 911 stuff while worrying about her son? We as a community can do WAY better than this.
I've seen it. Anyone with me? |

Shelby - 1st off - I and others here really appreciate you serving our country and putting yourself in harms way.
Rusty Heap is from my area. Never met the guy. I just know when he got in his accident, he asked for legal advice on the local Pelican site. I have a background in this area and offered him some good advice, no cost. He did not acknowledge my advice, nor thank me for my trouble. Sorry you had to go thru this and trouble your mother.......We'll all thinking of you over there.....

Don't know if it'd help, but I'd danged near drive to Memphis from Birmingham and pick it up for him and store it or take it to his mother until he gets home if he wanted me to!
Thanks for your service, Shelby. If anyone decides how we can round up the funds to ship it for him please post so I can throw in a few. Kinda tight right now but I'lll do what I can. Last edited by Looking_for_911; 08-22-2009 at 02:30 PM.. Reason: who knows |
