Canton Mecca spin on oil filter
SOLD.
The huge advantage of these filters is the filtering down to 8 microns with no bypass, meaning oil never goes around the filter. They are also very easy to examine between changes. The disadvantage of these filters is there is no bypass which means of course that all the oil is filtered all the time, unlike the stock setup. If you do over rev it when cold, however, oil pressure can bend the filter element out of shape. So these are really intended for track use on a Porsche which will always be adequately warmed before serious oil pressure is generated. The element costs $15 to replace. This unit fits any Porsche that uses the Mahle OC 54 filter. New these are $130. This one, in perfect condition including a new cartridge, is $65 plus shipping. ![]()

What's the service life of the filter element and where do you buy them? Thanks.

Pegasus among others sells these, take a look at their website. Service life depends on what you're doing with the car; racers often cut filters apart every race or so to check for metallic particles. One of the advantages of these is they are easy to inspect.

Pegasus' part number is #1294, 6.5" tall for Porsche, uses #1292 filter element. Sorry, don't recognize the CM part number.
