Help with Shipping a Whale Tail
All
I found an OEM porsche carrera whale tail for my 84 3.2 from a member here. Of course it's in LA and I'm in Boston, so a road trip isn't likely... The seller is willing to have it shipped but he's unwilling to arrange the shipping. Can anyone here help me out?? I've never shipped anything this big or fragile across the country so I'm at a loss myself how to do it. Crate? Pallet? I need it to arrive in the condition it's currently in...which is near perfect. I am willing to pay for your time and energy. Alternatively I have a lot of 914 engine parts to build a 2.0L 2056 and some 911 stuff (suspension mostly) as well if you'd find any of that useful. I put down a $100 deposit assuming I could get this figured out relatively quickly. PM me if you can help! thanks! Rich ![]() ![]() ![]() (yes I realize this one is a tea tray tail)

Ive used greyhound to ship in the past and never had an issue. Essentially buying a bus ticket for your car parts. Just make sure it is packaged well and that you have tracking on it

Rich, have him drop it off at a UPS store. They will pack and ship. Expensive but worth it for an excellent tail.

Greyhound Freight. They have a site where you can enter in the size and weight and get an estimate. probably under $100 (tail alone) .
I'm selling a tail and will ship via greyhound. I keep a roll of bubble wrap and cardboard on hand for shipping my FS parts. goodluck. |

We ship these in a Wardrobe size cardboard box from Lowes home improvement. Greyhound has done this several times with no problems

I shipped a Carrera deck with tail last month and UPS destroyed it. It was very well packed, practically crated. I'm still trying to get it worked out with them. - Matt

This was the company I contacted: Freight Quotes | LTL Freight Quotes, Truckload Freight Shipping Rates
They wanted $266.50 For 1 Pallet and $50 For 3k in insurance for a 2.7L Motor from PA to CA. I was blown away as most of the Freight quotes I was getting were $700 to 2k to ship the motor. Total is $316.50 Shipping and Insurance for 3k. You will not need that much in insurance either. 5 business days to ship. Just package the Tail in a Ton of Bubble and Plastic Wrap, or like one of the Fellow Posters mentioned here go to UPS store and have it packaged and then placed on a pallet. I was told it was a different class for Body Parts but you should be able to get it shipped for the same or cheaper than I am on this motor I am looking to buy and have shipped. I am also trying to figure out the shipping for a Hood, and Fenders through these guys as well. Here is the name and contact info of the gentleman I spoke with: John Estrada, Account Executive 3307 Northland Dr. Ste. 360 Austin, TX 78731 Tel: (888) 297-6968 x630 | Fax: (512) 686-3788 Email: jestrada@freightpros.com Hope this helps, and good luck! Regards.... |

I shipped whale tail thru GREYHOUND w/no issue in the past...you just get a large bike package and cut open and wrap all around it and Greyhound will ship it for the price at least up to $60 to $70 from LA to Boston. Hope this will answer to your question!

That would be great Rich, just send a PM or email. Good luck with shipping the tail.

I just bought a rear shroud for my other car a 59 Austin healey. Guy boxed the shroud 60 inches by 58 by 24 and it weighed about 100 pounds. Trucking co showed up with a tractor trailer unit and could not get into the guys place so they left. This was in Escondito California. They told me I had to somehow get it to their depot in San Diago. I was getting this shipped to Blaine Washington. My original quote was 250 dollars and now that seemed to be going out the door. I went on line, found a shipper in Escondito and their quote to pickup and ship was less then my original quote. Done deal . I agree greyhound is really reasonable in the US only but their tracking is non existant. If you are stuck a lot of the smaller shippers deal with the big transport co and they will be more accommodating. Thanks Rob
