Twin 65mm outlets, in middle of muffler like the classic sport mufflers of the past. 304 stainless steel, higher quality construction than other aftermarket mufflers. New, mounted to an engine but never run. $1,000, plus shipping from 74137.

Hey there javadog,

Do you have a video of the sound of it while engine running?

Or, can you comment on the noise/drone?

I have an M&K 2-in 1-out that I just put on, may be a bit louder than I wanted. Trying to compare...

I don't have a video of it running. As noted in the first post, it's new and never been run. In general, Monty mufflers are probably the least prone to droning of all of the 2-in, 2-out mufflers. I can't compare it to the sound of an M&K, so I have no idea if it would be more or less quiet than what you have. In general, a two outlet muffler is more sporting in nature than a single outlet muffler.

What I am selling is an M52. They are hand made, to order. As far as I know, nobody in the US stocks the one I am selling. Pelican sells a single-outlet version.

I have a new fiberglass rear valance with the cutout in the middle for the GT3 style twin tail pipe outlets. Just thinking whom ever buys your muffler may need this solution.

I have one and to answer a question on drone. ... I've never really noticed any droning. But then, I can hear the webbers running.
Quality is like excellent. ..you really get what you pay for.
I have no skin in this but simply providing my humble experience with this same twin muffler.

I was cruising the Toyota forums looking for advice on mufflers and I came across this question,

"Drone, What does that sound like???

Some wise guy, (or perhaps experienced) replied:

"Put your head in a bucket and take your girlfriends vibrator and hold it against the bucket".

Can anyone verify???

Sorry, don't have a bucket handy, so I can't test that theory. If anybody wants to loan me their girlfriend, she'll have to bring her own vibrator (and bucket.)

This droning that people complain about is really an increase in the decibel level at a certain range of engine speeds. In a 911, somewhere just north of 2,500 can often be a problem. It begs the question of why you are cruising at that speed, but that's another argument.

There are ways to minimize this effect, that I am not going to get into here. Suffice it to say that not all mufflers are created equally and some work better than others. If you look at the shape of this muffler, you will notice that it is not shaped in a way that minimizes the cost to make it.

Another point of view, when you talk to a knowledgeable engine builder about which muffler you might want to use (in the hopes of making a few more ponies) a Monty is on their short list.

Lastly, it's made well, unlike several other brands that I could name, but won't.

Bump for a great seller, and a kick as* muffler. Monty is as good as it gets for twin in and twin out. I can't believe this hasn't sold yet. They are rare to see in the used market place. I'd compare the sound to the original Alan Johnson mufflers.

Droning at 3000 rpm (qualifies as north of 2500) can be right in the middle of cruising speeds (YGMV - your gearing may vary).

Not sure resonance (irritating to some) is merely caused by an increase in dB level (not as irritating). Perhaps a positive correlation coefficient.

Monty and another Australian firm, Staintune, have exhaust making down pat. No complaints for either manufacturer. I've used Staintune on Moto Guzzis and Ducatis.

Alan Johnson really did have a nice muffler. I owned one.
You can still "roll your own" if you have access to a welder and cutting torch. That's how folks rolled "back in the day". ;)

nice muffler jr... can you comment on a couple of points please...
1. what engine was this intended for... as many engine specs within reason as possible...and was this muffler going to ADD hp...?
2. so these fit ssi's...?
3. do you have any personal experience either driving a/o being in a car for a drive and how did these monty mufflers behave vs a porsche stk muffler...?

I bought it for use on a Carrera 3.0. Mufflers like this aren't necessarily made for only one size and configuration of engine. They work well with a reasonable variety of sizes. The headers ahead of the muffler are probably more specific to a certain engine size. The dyno tests I have seen all added horsepower over a stock muffler. Peak horsepower numbers are overblown though. What matters more is the area under the torque curve. You might gain a lot more power at an rpm well below peak power than you do at the power peak rpm.

Yes, it fits SSi's, or original Porsche heat exchangers of the design used up through 1974.

These mufflers are considerably louder than a stock muffler. Keep in mind, Porsche made their stock mufflers more quiet as the years go by. Listen to an early 2 liter S and it will be a lot louder than an SC, or Carrera 3.2. It's somewhat relative.

The character of the sound will be completely different. It's more like a 911 on megaphones (although not nearly as loud) then say, a two out design that has the outlets at each end of the muffler, instead of towards the middle. Those are often lower in pitch.

People think they sound nice. Not all 2-in, 2-out mufflers have a nice sound.
