Question 2.7 l cis question

I have a 1977 911 that I'm planning on racing in autocross I have heard that driling 1" holes on the air filter cover helps the engine breathe better is this tru? or is it just a waste of time? your input is greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance
Fred

I'm not sure but I am planning on removing mine all together and basically run open element. I am going to use lexan around the perimeter so that I may retain the air filter. This worked well on the domestic cars I worked on as a kid. on a porsche it should work excellent.Just a thought!

You need to ask this question on the technical board to get a better response. The parts board is much less active.

And it was discussed thoroughly. the consensus was that it is a waste oo time and lets water in the filter area.
