B2524..........nice jacket. Are you an R Gruppe member? If so...have you offered this for sale on the R Gruppe forums? Either way, it would be considered bad form to sell this to someone who is not a member....and, if you are a buyer and not a member, it would be bad form to buy it. ( and you would be a poser.)

that's just my opinion...i could be wrong.

regards,
al

al, would it be OK to purchase this jacket if I owned a Boxster or Cayman? Was thinking about it...

Seriously guys - I know a lot of people who wear Gulf Racing jackets who weren't on any team, Harley jackets who don't own Harleys, BMW Motorsport jackets who bought one at a dealership parts counter, etc.

At the end of the day, it's one - the only one - RGruppe jacket I have ever seen in my life. It's not like they are pumping them out in China like Louis Vuittons and people are wearing them at the local Cars and Coffee en masse to be cool.

I do own a Gulf blue racing jacket. I probably worked on 20 original Gulf cars from the '70s when my boss bought the entire team and cars. Do I look down on anyone who wears one or puts the colors or decals on their 911? Hell no. I could care less.

It's just a jacket.

...sorry boys, that RGruppe jacket ain't like wearing this one if you weren't in the club.

Seriously, who want to be a RGruppe poseur? And if they did, who cares? And if they did and weren't in the club, who's gonna know?

Gulf, Harley and BMW make that stuff for public sale. R Gruppe swag is produced and sold for club members. It's the same for every car club, everywhere. It's a sign of loyalty to members that spend years earning the right to be in the club. That's why R Gruppe doesn't have website selling it's merchandise.

That being said, I doubt R Gruppe members will publicly strip the jacket off of you like the Hells Angels would but you'll probably suffer a few eye rolls for wearing a $375 jacket from a club to which you're not a member.

Sam C did a small run of these for R Gruppe members. There have not been any made since. They cost a fortune to make due to all the stitching

That's a rather handsome jacket, my size, too. But there's definitely some moral jeopardy involved, and I wouldn't want to pretend I was a member when I wasn't.

I remember looking at the R-Gruppe website when I first began obsessing about 911's, maybe 12 years ago. Despite being on the wrong side of the country, i thought "that looks pretty cool", if only to participate from afar, via the web. No go, hombre!

Like the old motto of Brooklands, England's pre WWII speed bowl, where carefully selected, wealthy young blades raced in ferociously dangerous cars on a track so rough they'd get bounced out of their seats: "The right crowd, and no crowding"

Best regards to all, John in CT.

I find this all quite amusing.

if it were that important why would a member not buy it from the OP and destroy it so someone not worthy could ever rep it? or can the OP sell only to a verified member of this prestigious group? maybe an investigation is in order as to how exactly he obtained this and a member who's involved will soon be a civilian like the rest of us great unwashed?

the distain for the might R-Gruppe has died down some in the recent years, but this is a reminder as to why many see the gruppe as a whole as self valued elitists. kinda like tow truck drivers see themselves. I know a number of members personally and they are great guys, but I could never see them defending the brand like above. my $.02.

by the way, the middies militia is open to all comers....

I'm not interested unless if you've got exclusive branded jackets...

How do you become a R Gruppe member? I do not see any website for them.

the thing i find really funny is like juanbenae says, no member will defend the brand the way it's being said on this thread. in fact, the reality is it is just "a jacket" but the controversy is more around whether someone would want to buy it if they are not a member the group.

1. Build shrine to thy lord and savior Magnus
2. Pray to gods of Sport and Purpose.
3. Shake fist and grumble loudly at any Audi's you pass on the road.
