912E Replacing trans+motormounts - difficult?
Any obstacles I should be preparing for?
Looks like I have to lower the rear of the motor for the motor mounts, and raise the trans to replace the trans mount biscuits? Do-able on the garage floor? Thanks in advance. Bill K |
Trans mounts are easy. You have to take off the fan shroud to change the motor mounts. It can be done on the garage floor. R/Ken B

Thanks Ken. Looks like the shroud is in two parts. Can I get away with just removing the half facing the rear bumper?

Bill I don’t think so, the shroud covers the engine mounting brackets that you need access to, plus it makes it easier to remove the crossbar. You’ll have to support the engine too. I just did mine but I had removed the whole unit and did a lot of while your in there stuff!

Good time to check for oil leaks.(Oil cooler). Check flaps etc.

I removed the old mounts and discovered that the replacements sold here are not compatible. Am I wrong - (see pic) ? Should I de-construct the oem mount and try to use the generic Rennline biscuits made for the 911.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1539275296.jpg At the other end, do I have to remove the heat exchangers to get to the forward half of the shroud? I spied several bolts holding the H/E skins to the shroud. Thanks, Bill K |
The 911 mounts are thinner than factory 912e mounts, I used a thick washer and spacer to make up the difference. Also I think the heat exchangers are only connected at the front ends, I removed to make a long block config, but did it as a procedure to clean/reseal, not to just replace the mounts.
