Spring projects
 

Well the snow is still deep and the roads are salty and frost heaved .. you TX and CA guys know about that? Got a couple projects planned. The PO installed some good looking front trunk struts that don't work below 90 degrees F. Has anyone added helper springs successfully? Must be a way for that to work. Also on my list ... noticed in the owners man. ('67 coupe) the control arms on either side of the parking brake are supposed to be heat control, right and throttle control, left. Mine are both labelled heat and each control a flapper box. How is the throttle connected here ? Might be useful somehow.

The thottle control is a rod running through the tunnel in the center of the passenger compartment with the shift linkage...on the lower drivers side of the engine you should be able to see where the thottle connects to the engine through a cable to a bell crank and a rod that runs up to the back of the fan shroud. I can sympathize about the hood struts...mine are brand new and if the temp is below 65 or so they won't hold the hood...if I lift the hood up and down a few times quickly though they will usually do ok.

The 912 did not have a throttle control. Only the 911.

No throttle control? We must be talking about different things...I'm referering to the throttle linkage from the pedal back...did the 911 have a throttle cable similar to an old Ford or Chevy truck? I know I had one on my hay truck when I was a kid...put the truck in gear, loop the wheel to hold it straight, set the throttle to a nice walking speed...get out and throw hay on the trailer...just had to be aware of where the row ended...people get ticked when your truck drives itself through their fence...

I was referring to the hand throttle control which was located to the left of the handbrake. Never seen a 912 with one of these, only the 911's.

Hood Struts

The standard strut is marginal. :mad: Ambient temperature plays a role. Options are to "double" the standard struts or use the "Lifetime Guarantee", cost more, strong enough to actually work strut. You may be able to get by with one standard and one "actually works" strut.

Hand Throttle

As Duke said. 911 only. For increasing idle speed during cold start.

Thanks guys. Owners manual shows single stick forward of shifter for '67 912. My hand brake assembly must be a '68 912. Will exper. with well placed springs under hood.:D
