912 Project -
I don't know much about this project yet - just bought a defunked 1968 912 Targa from a guy who had originally planned to get it back on the road. The body, hood, doors, fenders, top and glass (soft rear window) are complete but all the trunk and floor panels are in rough shape. The seats, instruments, interior, etc.... was stored inside but there are still boxes and boxes of parts to go through. He tells me 3 years ago - that the motor and 5 speed transmission ran out fine - although I'm sure it will require an inspection to verify tolerances. Everything appears to be included but it will be a while before the true status can be sorted out. He said this father-son project was originally disassembled for body and paint work. A friend has already offered $30 for the tail light lens.....
![]() What do you guys think - is it worth the effort of replacing the floor panels to turn it into a daily driver ? Michael

Personally I'm a fan of project cars - I enjoy the process.
Replacement panels are available, however, if rust has taken over other areas (longs, rockers, etc...) the repairs can become a bit more complicated - still doable though.

Sheet Metal Parts -
Well Yikes - The more probing along the front - back floor panels, fuel tank rails, transmission mount and battery box the more soft areas and rust. Where is the best place for replacement sheet metal ?
Thanks - Michael

I've purchased a lot of replacement panels from Restoration Design (I've been happy with everything I've purchased) some of the panels can be purchased through Pelican.
911/912 Chassis: Restoration Design Inc. Stoddard is another option.

$30 for tail lights is you friend getting one over on you. Glad I don’t have friends like that. Might benefit you to search on Pelican before you let things go way to cheap.

Initial Inspection and Evaluation -
Hey John - This my 1st 912 so don't know much about them yet. My buddy's $30 offer for the tail light assemblies was probably just a fishing expedition. He has bought, flipped and flopped dejected 911, 912 and 356 projects for years....
![]() After going through all my boxes, pieces and parts, everything does seem to have been included and in reasonably good shape. Now to disassemble the motor and see what I actually have. At least there is no clunk when you quickly reverse the crank by hand. The 5 speed transmission feels nice and smooth but I'll open it up too. The big question will be how much money, enthusiasm and labor to put into the floor panels. Michael

I’m currently restoring a 66. I bought new floor panels, inner and outer longitudinals from our host. 912’s are going up in value.
