Is there any reason that the 911 Turbo tie Rods would not fit a 69-912??

Any suggestions on replacement tie rods would be welcomed. I am considering auto-crossing this car, thats why the turbo tie rods.

I need to do this too, one of my last things to do, Make sure you get a strut brace too. Koni shocks/struts can really help also. I hope not to be doing so much 3 wheelin at this years autocross.

Turbo tie rods fit ok, I just did one for my 69. Rember to have the alignment redone after replacing them.

Tech tip- Measure the toe in before you replace the tie rods using a measuring tape. To do this jack up the front end, so the tires are off the ground. This gives you the room to use the measuring tape. Measure from a convient tread groove on the front of the center of the tires to the same groove on the other front tire. Write down this number, should be about 54 inches. Measure the exact same groove on the center back side of the tires. It should be about 1/8 inch larger, ie say the front is 53 3/8 the rear should be about 53 4/8 inches. The reason for doing this before you change the tie rods, and asuming the alignment is ok to begin with, is that the toe changes a little with the tires hung down vs sitting on the road. If things were perfact the numbers would be the same but they are not. Anyway after replacing the tie rods readjust the toe to the same as you got in this first measurement. Make sure the steering wheel stays in the straignt ahead position when doing all of this. Finally, if you don't trust the initial alignment, use the 1/8 inch to start with, and then go to an alignment shop.

Jack,

Full blown alignment will be done after installing this and the 4 new shocks. I have found at least 2 places that come highly reccomended by both 912 & 356 drivers so I figure I am safe in that regard.

Thanks!

One additional tip.

After an alignment, even from the most highly reguarded shop, rechech everything for tightness. All alignment shops have a genetic flaw. They fail to tighten up the fasteners. May be a way to facitltate return business, I don't know. But for safety sake, check them yourself.
