extra part after rebuild
Just finished rebuilding the engine on a '69 912 and I have a part left over that I can,t remember where it goes.
It is astructural support piece, triangular, about six inches long on the long side, and I can't find any bolt holes that it matches ( embarassing aint it ?) Also... I have a hole in the top of each head that looks like a scavenge port for the valve train. It has a rubber grommet but no fitting. Looks like a good place to drop a nut into and screw up a rocker. any idea what should go on there and where it should vent to ? 'preciate it...... RonA |
Ron,
Have you looked at parts obsolete as they have good diagrams? here is one of their pages: http://store.yahoo.com/partsobsolete/cylheadreppa.html Also, the hole in the heads? If this was a '68 engine (you sure you have a 69 in there?), I'd say it might be the air injection port from the 'smog pump'... if it is a '69, then hopefully someone else has a better idea - any pictures of these things? breather tube
O.K. The digram shows the opening as a breather tube, does it just vent to the engine compartment?

Left head is plugged. Right head is vented to the oil fill/breather.
Per diagram on above link: #1 is plug for left head. #3 & #4 are the grommet and tube to attach hose on the right head. |
Aen't you supposed to have parts left over after a rebuild? I mean thats better than not having enough parts right?

Tie it to your radio antenna & use it for a wind chime-sounds great at 110mph.
