Generator Questions
Just purchased a 1969 912 engine and need some advice/help on sorting out my generator issues (full disclaimer: the engine is in a type 1 VW ).
The generator is a Bosch 0101302 067 14V 30 A 20 (from ther case). I get 1 volt at idle and 2 volts at 2500 rpm. The engine has had zip miles over the past 30 years. I pulled the brushes and see the commutator is heavily carbon glazed. I need to replace the brushes and clean the commutator to see if I can get voltage before removing the gen/fan assembly. So here is the deal. The current generator has a plastic cover over the D+ and Df connectors. The connectors are spade, not circle ring like everything I see in new generators for sale. The big auction site has a couple of rebuilt generators exactly like mine, but nowhere else I can find. Can someone tell me what brushes I need to buy as well as information on where else I might find the spade connector generator I currently have. Finally. I am going to use contact spray on the commutator as well as clean the brush holders so the brushes move freely. Anything else I should try before moving to replace the gererator? Thanks in advance foe all leads and suggestions. |
The brushes are VW 113-903-515-A. Your generator with the two spade connectors AFAIK is an earlier VW version, but the stud type can be used with some spade adapters.
One of the advantages of a Type 1 is the availability of an alternator for very little money If your gen. needs lots of work or replacement you might consider the conversion. If possible please post a photo. Bill |
