Steel Wheels
I recently purchased our 1967 912. The car is very original with 190K miles. The only changes I can determine is bigger cylinders and webers and maybe a repaint on one front fender. No rust. The car came with the original steel wheels which are in good condition but showing minor areas of surface rust. The date codes on the wheels look good for originality to the car. My quandary is whether to media blast and paint/powder coat or to live with them as they are. Any opinions/suggestions? Thanks.

I had a set that I lightly sanded by hand (scuff) and painted them with satin finish rattle can rustoleum paint. I first did them grey and then satin black for two different looks. They looked great and my cost was minimal. I eventually went back to my Fuchs and sold them here on Pelican. Unless you are doing a concour restoration I think this is the way to go. Besides you can always send them off later to be refinished if you decide to. Just a suggestion. RRC

+1 with RRC -
Give them a light wet sanding w/ 600 grit then light sprays with rattle can. Probably the closest match is Wurth 0893339108 wheel paint. Bill |

Careful with powder coating I had a set done and the hubcaps wouldn't fit anymore.

Thanks for the good information. I hadn't thought about the hub cap problem with powder coating. I decided to paint with the Wurth paint.
