912E transmission mounts

Anyone have any idea, has 912E a special trasmission mount? I ordered a new pair , they sent me the normal 911 things.Did not fit. The ones I have in my 912E are thicker and the middle bolt is too long to tighten up with the 911 mounts.Should I have ordered the 911 mounts with bolts? If they are not the same why? All cataloques and sources I have seen claim that 911 mount will fit 912E too.Well not in my car..... Should I get some astronomically priced special, original ones from PORSCHE ? OR?

That's wierd. I was under the impression that they were the same as a 911 as well. I was just about to order 911 Club Sport mounts. I think I'll wait to see what you discover! I'm wondering if you still have the big balancer/ingot in there? I took mine out awhile back with no negative effects. I use it to balance our workbench. Perhaps that is part of the problem?

I think I have to go under the car to check it out..... Anyway I took out the old one , tried to fit the new one ( sport type , or harder type ) and when I got it in place , I tried to tighten it and realised that it will never fit.The middle bolt was as tight as it went , run out of threads , but still it was not tight.

I believe I still have this big "thing" hanging down there. I wonder , if it is there , there is a reason for that! PORSCHE guys don´t put that kind of things there just for fun! There must be a reason why they mounted this extra weight there.

I believe it's a type of harmonic balancer and if you're going with solid mounts or sport mounts you may not be concerned with its effect anyway!

Did you find out what was the difference between the mounts ?

The rear mounts on my 912 -65 seemed to me, exactly identical as my friends 911 -73.

OK , got em out. The thing is 51 mm thick at the center tube.Rubber area thickness is 45 mm.Middlebolt is 84 mm long , threaded only for the first 33 mm.Looks like the normal 911 trannymount , and I had a pair of 911 sportmounts , which fitted in there place, but were not thick enough. This big weight/balancer is still there but it doesn´t make any difference if I take it out.As it is hanging underneath the mountbar , in the middle.Doesn´t even touch the trannymounts. So does anyone know what mount this is? Is it special for 912E only? Are these available anywhere?

eki912--

You mentioned a part the hangs down near your transmission mount. do you have a picture of it or do you know what it does? I am putting together a 1977 targa with a type four engine. I don't have the part you describe and I haven't seen one on 914 installations. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
--John

Do you mean this big lump of iron.... I think somekind of balancing weight underneath the trannymountbar?

Some people have taken it out , I won´t. As I do think the guys at the PORSCHE factory don´t usually mount big metal pieces around their masterpieces just for fun!!! There is a reason why it is there.

Or do you mean something else?

I guess the iron lump is what I am missing. I agree that Porsche engineers put it there for a very specific reason. I do have some vibration (possibly harmonic) when decelerating and think that the weight may help dampen it by changing the period of vibration to frequency that is outside those normally generated in a 912. Can you take a picture of the weight and/or do you have an illustrated diagram of the part? I will try to purchase one as soon as I know what it is that I am trying to purchase.

Thanks,
--John
