Horn honks when I turn the wheel.

I have read a couple posts on this but wanted to bring it up as it has happened to me now. My horn has started to honk when I turn the steering wheel. Generally when I turn it more than half a turn in either direction. The horn functions perfectly fine otherwise so I am figuring it is something in the wheel. I took the horn hockey puck off and I noticed that the rubber piece that acts like a spring was pretty hard and not pliant so I have ordered a new one. The horn contact pin looks to be in good shape and moves freely/springy. I need to pick up a socket to remove the steering wheel to check the plate and it’s ground wire to look for any issues with both of them. Is there anything else I am missing??? Thank you! John

You might try just replacing the rubber first since it could well be the cause. If it doesn’t solve the problem then you can purchase the socket. If you have access to one, an impact wrench works really well for removing the nut.

Borrowed a socket from my father in law. Everything looked fine. No frayed wires. Cleaned some gunk off the contact plate and put it back together. I think the rubber piece is the culprit. Will see when the new piece arrives from Pelican.

It was the rubber piece. Works perfectly now.
