Experience with Raby's Aircooled Tech?
I am approaching a 912E engine rebuild and would like to hear from anyone that has experience with Raby's Aircooled Technology: how the process went, was it worth it, did the engine live up to expectation, recommend Raby's to anyone else, etc...? Recommend someone else (in California)?

Brad is on socal912.org & bay912.org occasionally and he worked with Jake. I believe Dave L. also had his 912E rebuilt with Jake, and even posted a customer feedback report on Jake's website (unedited). All good reviews to date - call him - Scott, #86

I am considering doing the same. Dave L got his engine done by Jake , I drove the car.....and it was absolutely fantastic!!! I want the same thing !!! Sadly I canīt afford it right now , have to wait for a while. Luckily my own engine (130k miles) still works OK. Surprisingly well to be honest. But still it needs to be done. I also saw Jakes video , this man seems to know these motors!! Find Dave , and have a chat with him.

I have seen and run against some of his motors. Top notch work from what I have seen.

I went with the 2056cc rebuild kit from Jake for my 912E. I was planning on firing it up for the first time on this Memorial Day weekend, but unfortunately the transmission is not ready and I don't have a sensible way of running it outside the car. The tranny s the one part I wasn't willingto tackle myself.
So, I can't say anything about performance yet and, since I did all the work myself, any problems with longevity will have to be chalked up to my own experience/learning-curve. There were a few mis-understandings and stumblings, but in general I would say that Jake was very quick to respond to the questions and problems I encountered. I have a pretty high confidence that the engine will be what I expected, and well worth the money I spent. I'll post a picture or 2 in the next few days on bay912.org before I put it back in the car. The engine sure is pretty - I hope she's as good as she looks !! I had the "tin" and fan housing powder coated, and painted/restored/cleaned every part on the engine. Sure hope there's no oil leaks !! |
Oh, I should have mentioned that I am the Brad that Scott M. referred to. Hope you can make it to Solvang Scott !!

Nice to see you guys chatting about me........Thank god its all positive, but there is a reason for that!
I know one thing, not a single other shop on this planet put the amount of effort into each engine than Brent and I do. From the math to the assembly, balance and dyno tuning.....we don't have a single competitor, especially when it comes to the 912E! This is not a job, its a quest! |
I will give a BIG thumbs-up to Jake and his shop. I have a T1 in my 550 Spyder repro that Jake built for me and it is fantastic. I can also vouch for his customer service and say that he has bent over backwards to help me on a number of occasions. You can also rely on him to do what he says he is going to do and on the schedule that he gives you.

I'm encouraging my mate in Antarctrica to send Jake his 1966 912 engine for rebuild.
As I mentioned to Jake earlier, with The Maestro gone, someone needs to pick up and run with the A,B, C and 912 world. |
Yes, the 356 and 912 world does need someone decicated to it, once again......I have thought about it, but my plate is already full with the TIV world......
