High Beams Not Working.
So, I was driving at night last week and suddenly my headlights went out and there was a puff of smoke from down by the pedal cluster. I was using the high beams. By the time I pulled over and stopped my headlights had come back on. Now all I have are low beams. No matter what position the high/low beam stalk is in. Also, the round blue high beam indicator light in the gauge cluster does not come on. I have checked and all the fuses are good as are the wire connections at the fuse box. I am guessing that I fried the headlight relay that is behind the pedal cluster?!?! I have not gotten under there to check it out. If it is the relay, does anyone make a replacement or is there some other type of relay I could use? The only replacements I can find are used ones on EBay. Thanks, John

Those relays are not manufactured anymore, you can find NOS relays at ridiculous prices,
if it is the relay you can use a modern relay Bench test your relay. |
Any idea what the modern make/model number of a replacement would be?

If the relay is like this one
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1655600000.jpg You can use this type of relay, you can find it at any car parts store http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1655600096.jpg |
John:
Be sure to accurately mark each of your wires as you disconnect them from your original relay. Once you know which went where, you can diagram the location of wires on the new relay. It’s good insurance to buy a cheap 5 slot fuse block which will allow you to verify your connections with all wires fused. This lets you test without frying a new relay, or worst yet, damaging wires in your original harness. Bill |
