Can I use a Mark Ten CD ignition with my 050 distributor fitted with Pertronix breaker-less ignition?
Can any CD ignition be used with a Pertronix? Thanks, Ron D

I use a Perma-Tune CDI with my Pertroinix set up, I would suspect the answer is yes. I contacted Perma-Tune and got the wiring set from them, works just fine...
Good luck, Chas. 96/912

Ron,
I bought mine from a friend but the Perma-tune for 912's is "model # 911E". They use them on early 911's also. Perma-tune has a good web site.www.perma-tune.com I think Performace Products has them as does Tweeks and you may be able to buy one at Perma-tune. They show up on eBay too. Chas. 69/912

Chas:
Thanks for the info. Stoddard no longer carries Permatune for the 912 so they tell me. In the meantime I was e-bay bidding on a Delta Mark Ten-B CD unit. I had a Mark Ten on my 69 911L and it was good. I recall it was mounted on the firewall. I won the e-bay auction and am anxious to install the CD unit. You have Pertronix too so I am hopeful I won't damage it with the CD. Any tips on hooking it up?? Thanks, Ron

Ron,
I contacted Pertronix and Perma/tune, I think they both responed with info on hooking up the unit. I believe I have it in my Porsche notes at the garage. I'll located it a forward along what they said. BTW I would suspect CDIs are pretty much the same when you open them up, so I would be assured the part will work with your car, it's just a matter of figureing out the system. I mounted mine on the left side of the engine compartment next to the voltage regulator and all the wiring stuff, plenty of room. I'll be in touch soon, Chas. 69/912

I did not find anything that you could use, the reply from Pertronix was hook the violet wire to the yellow and the red to the black, Perma-tune that is. Sorry, Chas. 69/912

Thanks for looking. I contacted Pertronix and they gave me the OK to hook it up as per the Delta instructions. I faxed them the Delta Instructions and one of their engineers calld me back. I'll let you know how it works as soon as I get it and hook it up. Did you mount (screw) yours to the inner fender next to the voltage reg? Thanks again. Ron D

Ron,
Glad you figured it out, yes I mounted the CDI in front of the voltage reg. and wiring board, front being toward the rear of the car. Good luck, Chas. 69/912

Did you have to do any tweeking of the Tachometer via in-line resistors or did it work OK?? The Delta instructions say to add resistance to the tack feed wire if it is erratic or mis-reads the rpm's. They give some resistor amount guide lines too. Thanks Ron D

Ron,
No I just followed the directions, the only stuff about the tach was if it was a mechanical rather than electronic. Since my car is a 69 it was a mute point. They did say to remove any inline static condencers / radio noise reduction ect. Let us know how it works out, Chas. 69/912

Chas: WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!! Boy you bet. I regapped the plugs to .035: per their instructions too. Now when I turn the ignition key to start, it starts instantly without touching the gas pedal. Much like modern fuel injected cars. I could not believe it, no more pumping the gas 3-4 times to get it to start. And no popping and she idles like a dream, 850-900 rpm even when cold. A very welcome improvement. Tomorrow (Saturday) I am going to take it for the State Emissions Test which will give me an analysis of the exhaust and I'll bet my emissions are way down due to more complete combustion. This will be my last State Emissions Test as the car will be 35 years old next year and not required to be tested. HOORAY!!!!!! Thanks for all. Ron D

Ron,
.035 plug gap?? Wow what a difference, is this because of the more efficient spark? I would be curious to know how it affects engine temp. I have a Mark 10 unit someone gave me sitting in my garage....... C |

I will let you know on engine temp effects. My car always ran cold never got above the 1/4 mark. If you need the Delta Mark Ten (or Ten-B) installation directions I have them. Check yours out to see if it is complete with wire terminal strips, green & red. They are important for correct hook-up. By the way, they call out a .040" gap for USA cars and .035" for "foreign cars". I was searching for a Delta Mark Ten CD unit because it is from the same period as my 69 and I found the Delta Instructions in the original owners papers. It was a Dealer add-on I am sure. I had one on my 1968 911L. Thanks, Ron
