Fuel smell in the 912 cabin

FUEL SMELL IN THE 1968 912 CABIN ...
I have fresh gasoline smell in the cabin while driving. I sealed the leaking fuel sending unit on top of the tank and replaced the over flow/vent hose next to the sending unit. I also replaced the filler hose coupler that connects the tank and fill pipe. Gas cap gasket is new. Where do I go from here?

I believe my problem is the Weber carbs. Weber doesn't use the 912 factory air cleaners. Their air cleaners allow a lot of raw gas odor to enter the engine compartment. The former owner says he didn't have the gas odor issue until he installed the Webers. Now to fabricate a mounting plate to adapt the old air cleaners to these Webers. Any good after market fuel injection kits out there?

Had webers on my ‘68 912 for over 25 years and didn’t have any fuel smell. How did you seal the fuel sender? New gasket? Take the car for a spirited drive with lots of twistiest and then take a look at the area around the sender. You’ve got to do it quick since the fuel evaporates quickly. Do you smell fuel in the engine compartment or in the trunk?
912bbs.org is a great site for 912 specific information and help. When registering I’d suggest you use a real name ( first anyway). You get better response when you do. It’s a mostly kind, close knit bbs community.
