Porsche Crest Filter fitting...

Hello.
I'm looking for a clean looking fitting to attach my oil can breather hose to. I run Webers with K&N type filters and aluminum lids. I can TIG weld and or tap the air filter lid. Anybody got a nice solution to this minor problem?

Chas:
Why don't you use the small K&N oli breather filter attached directly to the oil can and get rid of the hose. A few postings mention the Model Number.

Try contacting Craig Norton on the Bay 912 BB he told me about it and it works fine.

Here is a pic of mine.

Good luck,
Ron D

Ron,
Looks good, where did you get it? from Craig or did you part it up from different pieces?
Thanks,
Chas.

I got the K&N P/N from Craig and ordered it from my local Auto Zone store, took 1 day and cost about $17.00. Came with clamp and filter element saturation oil.

I'll look up the part number tonight or search the bay912 bb for it.

Thanks,
Ron d

Here is the K&N P/N list. I think the filter was 62-1370 but I will have to confirm that.

thanks,
Ron D

I'd read on one of those posts that someone using the K&N breather still got oil residue in the engine bay. Anyone else using it have a comment either way? I need to do that or get a breather hose over to my air cleaner (there's already a fitting) and wasn't sure which way to go.

I have one and, yes, you will get oil residue in the engine compartment. I wipe down the area between the generator & right carb after every drive. The K&N carb filters came with a attachment for connecting a hose to the filter housing. I plan on doing this to eliminate the problem.

Duke - thanks for the reply. I was figuring that having oily residue was unavoidable, but frankly wouldn't mind having it confined to the inside of the air cleaner assembly rather than all over the engine compartment! (much smaller mess to clean up)

Exactly. That is why the factory had the hose running to the right air cleaner so the oily mess would not wind up in the engine compartment (and of course for environmental reasons too) My original master Porsche mechanic told me I would notice some oil in the right air cleaner element & why it was there. Just wipe it out once in awhile.

After almost 1 year of using that breather filter, I just noticed a bit of oil on the engine tin. Not huge amounts but a bit.

Cleaned the filter and will check it again in 6 months.

Maybe RonD will post a pic of his oil vapor trap setup, very click.

Ahhhh,
Lots of hoses there, were's the lower hose end up out of the remote breather? Is this the vapor trap Criag mentioned above? Looks like that hose is going into the unibody hole too.

Chas:
The lower hose goes to the same hole the old hose went thru. This set up just collects the oil and eliminates the dripping.

I have since gone to the small K&N Oli Breather. I agree there were too many hoses, looked akward.
