912e slow starting
 

1976 912e cranks very slow and runs the battery out in a short time. With a battery charger attached it will start better. Do I just need a new battery with higher cca? The current battery is rated at 550 cca. I've had the starter checked and that is not the problem. What is the recommended battery size, or brand, if someone has that technical information.

I’d guess your battery is on the way out. Check the dimensions, post locations & CCA of the group 91/48 batteries. IMO if your car has no parasitic drains, even a new cheap battery will do a good job.
