If I'm hearing you correctly there is a seal behind the pully on the crank, it's probably started to leak. On my 69 I did'nt pull the engine to change the seal but I did have to remove the rear lic. plate sheetmetal, the motor mounts, engine metal, generator stand , oil filler can, dist. the pully of course and the "3rd piece / timing gear cover". You might be able to get the seal out with out taking the 3rd piece off but I know it's easier with it removed. If you remove the 3rd piece get a new gasket.
The best thing is to get a manual, our host here sells them as do many other Porsche parts companies. If it's a really small leak and your not the mechanical type I would keep an eye on it and wait till it gets worse. Good luck, Chas. 69/912 66/911
