Fuel Pump pressure
I've recently been checking my fuel pressure from my rebuilt fuel pump and found that the pressure is way too high (4.5-4.75psi).
The factory manual states that the pressure should be between 3 and 3.5 psi. I'm concerned because I think that the high pressure could be causing a "gremlin" with my otherwise nicely tuned Webers. I've tried adding 3mm in shims (gaskets) to the phenolic block to bring the fuel pump further away from the eccentric, thereby shortening the stroke of the pump actuating rod. But this was to no avail, the pressure did not change. I think in physical terms it won't anyway. By shortening the stroke, I think i am just decreasing the volume, but the pressure will remain the same??? Has anyone else tested their fuel pressure and found it too high and successfully brought the pressure down by adjstments to the pump? I really don't want to employ a fuel pressure regulator (the good ones necessitate a return line to the tank), if I can avoid it. Thanks, Erik. |
