The holes are definitely there. Kinda a pain, but well worth the effort. I now rarely turn the a/c on, just keep the rear quarters open all time. Also, during colder temperatures, the defrost works perfectly with the draft effect and clears the windows very quickly...

Shop around, the windows with all hardware should range from $150-$350...plus 4-8 hours of labor...

Good Luck,

Bob

BTW, the 923/912E never came with rear pop-outs...

No. As stated in the Factory Service Manual Stationary rear windows only. I have only seen one other 912E with rear 1/4 pop outs, he had them installed.

Eki,

I received your PM and thought that I would post my reply here in the event that someone might add some additional info.

For me, there was a channel/rail that was spot welded to the door post. This had to be removed inorder to allow clearance for the new window hardware. Also, I purchased new rubber seals for the windows which increased the price sigificantly, but I do have a very firm seal. You should be able to do this at home. If you have access to a dremel tool or small grinder, even better.

Bob

I have assembled the parts to do this to my 912E as well. I haven't started the project yet but no time like the present. I may start today!

I'll try to take some pics and ask the relevant questions as they arise.

What year range windows will fit ? As most of the windowframes are black. When was this chromeframe available?

I read from 911/912E authenticity guide that these openable windows were available as an option for 912E.What is the real truth , I donīt know...

eki,

Forgive me for asking, but where are you obtaining your mis-information?

The majority (all the units I reviewed) of the pop-outs were either chrome or anodized mill finish. As far as the pop-outs as a 912E option, No. IIRC, this fact is supported/referenced in both the owners manual and the service manual.

Coincidentally, I have seen additional incorrect comments published in Excellence (letters from the reader, Not B.A) about our 912E model.

I believe that any pre-993 pop-outs will fit. I would encourage you to look at the pop-outs inperson and pick the best 2 for your project.

Good Luck,
Bob

OK , about the black frames , I asked from three places.Only black available.I just have to keep on searching.I will eventually find them.
(or I have to fix my AC.....)

About the pop-outs : The 1974-1989;911,912E&930 PORSCHE authenticity series by MARK.S.HAAB says on page 35 : ( about rear quarter windows )
"The 1974-1975 base 911 came with fixed windows, but opening ones were an option, as they were for the 912E"

And PORSCHE 356; the story of the flat-four Porsches by David.G.Styles says on page 188 : (chapter about 912E )
"Inside, the seats, door trims and carpets were a little less plush and the rear quarter lights were fixed, opening types being available as an option"

That is were I got this misinformation..... Maybe I read too much , and believe all that I read....

Regards,

E K I

No flames intended,

Dont know about Mark S Haab and his relationship with the factory, however The owners manual states the pop-outs were not an option on the 912E...

There are a few salvage yards nearby that carry the chrome/mill finish frames.

If you are interested, I can take close-ups of the pop-outs...

Another strange thing , I just got this sales brochure of 911 & turbo & 912E. It also says : ( on a page about 912E model )
" It also has a comfortable interior and such amenities as fingertip controls on the steering column , velour-type carpeting, REAR SIDE WINDOWS THAT OPEN, a rear window defogger and a space saver tire. "

Well mine donīt open , yet......
