Snow's deep in NE.....
And my rebuilder is still using my engine for a paper weight. Looks like it will be spring before I see my car again. Needed a complete engine overhaul after last summers disaster. Thought I'd let my fellow NE 'ers know. Happy Holidays.

Hi Frank .... If it's still smoking in the spring you could fumigate my yard. We will have a huge mosquito population after all the rain and snow. Don't know much about the North Shore. Check on the 911 bbs there are a lot of Mass guys there.

Jim,
Thanks! She'll have to warm up for a few minutes but she'll do a right nice job and leave all of the little varmints choking for sure. Problem is, she'll have the owner choking also. I usually smell like hell even when I take a short ride. I've got my driving clothes just for the 912. Who does work in your area on motors for these babies? Frank |

My '67 coupe is about ready to come home after 5 months at LeBelle and Leitner in Greenfield, Ma. I threw a piston last summer and really made a mess of it. Pretty much a complete engine rebuild and haven't seen the invoice yet. When I dropped it off ( off the wrecker) in August they quoted $50 per hour. Most likely cheap compared to most places. They have direct experience with 912's and all 911's. Fired it up last week and it sounds great but too cold to bring home yet. You might need a real rebuild or maybe just rings which aren't too big a deal on this engine. If it runs strong and maybe only smokes cold you might only need top end work. Advise .. do it now so you don't miss the spring and summer. My 'squiters will be here with or without you.

Jim,
$50/hr?? Wow, that's not bad. In Greenfield yet. Its nice to know there is a place within 100 miles that knows these cars. Unfortunately, mine starts out smoking a little and progresses to smoking alot. A friend suggested maybe I broke an oil ring since it didn't smoke when I got and then suddenly it was pretty bad. I'll pull her apart when the weather is much nicer and begin the process. I appreciate your advice also. I'll probably have it ready just in time for Thanksgiving! Good thing I have a bike for the nice weather to keep me busy. If you '67 is ready maybe we can meet up an get some other guys together and compare notes, car and all that. Frank (Fronk325@aol.com) |
