912 Valve Adjustment
I have a question that I hope some one out there can shed some light on ...
Did a valve adjustment yesterday for the first time since bringing the vehicle home from California last September. Things seemed to go fine until I got to #3 and #4 cylinders. Made the proper adjustments on #3, then moved on to #4. I noticed however that while working on #4, the exhaust valve rocker arm for #3 still had clearance between the valve and the rocker arm itself; about .006. The intake valve was fine. I double and triple checked my work, and still ended up with the same problem. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks everyone Jeff Shropshire The Woodlands, TX

Jeff,
Keep in mind, while #4 is on the compression stroke, the other 3 are still doing stuff..... filling with vapor, evacuating exhaust, pressurizing, and so on. Remember here, you are going opposite of normal engine rotatopn here to avoid jumping from side to side. Actual firing order is 1-4-3-2. So, 4 is on compression stroke, 3 is still venting on the exhaust stroke. If you go 180 deg CW on the pulley from here, (TDC on 4), #3 exhaust will close, intake will open, then close for compression stroke in #3. Check it out and let me know. You can always call me too.....PM me for the number if you want. Morrie
