Porsche Crest no draw through r/side carbs

idle slowly increased over time untill it idles at 3000rpm now and
no draw through r/side carbs.

rebuilt carbs solex`s - new disributor - removed intake manifold sufaced top and bottom and at retstart after assembly had normal draw through carb briefly then went away.

compresion 160 all around got spark- left side works good.

nothing I do seems to make a differance problem seems to be getting progressively worse. I am obviously misdiagnosing the problem. frustration !!!!!!!!!

Lots of views, no replies. Here's something to get us started on figuring this out.

Have you verified you have fuel delivery to the right bank. Use a mirror and a flashlight to look down into the carb throat. Pump the throttle and see if the accelerator pump jets squirt.

Have you adjusted your valves recently? If you adjusted incorrectly after the compression test, you may want to recheck, its easy to get confused.

Let me know what you find. Its a pretty simple formula.... fuel, pressure, spark, and timing.

Let me know....

Miles:
Will the car still idle (at any speed?) If so, grab a spray can of carb cleaner & using the red extension tip, give a quick shot (just a real short spray) to the intake manifold/cyl. head area, then work your way up - carb/int.man; throttle shafts; top cover & see if there's a difference. Can you isolate between the throttle bores on the carb or is it both cyls? Did you have this problem before rebuilding the carbs?
Keep us posted.
Bill.

Something that helped me with my solex's. Make sure the flies are closed all the way. Start with idle screws all the way out, ALL THE WAY, air/mix at 2 out. Josh912 posted this somewhere. Helped me.

GoodLuck

I'm glad you've sorted it out, but it doesn't resolve what was wrong. I find it difficult to believe that installing a different carb would increase your "draw" that much. What do you mean by "draw"? Were you measuring the flow with a unisyn or something like it? Were the butterflies opening equally or binding in any way? Any chance of an exhaust blockage that you loosed?

Hard to believe I agree Dave but it looks like those solex`s were just that worn out.

However I did repace the exhaust system with a Bursche tuned system so I can`t say for sure.

I should add that after I installed the carbs and before I installed the new exhaust, I drove the car for a month with straight pipes, what fun. That little four cylinder sounded and ran like one of the race cars we have here in North Carolina.

Getting the tail lights working is the next big project and replacing the right front rotor.
