901 tranny
How can I tell if the tranny sitting in my lap is a 4 or 5 speed ? Serial is 901.301.101.02.
Thanks Michel Richard michrich@total.net |

Tod Simpson replied to someone on another board to the same question. His reply:
Stamped on the trans is a type number, something like 901/05 (or 902/05). This number tells you the type of transmission, and if I remember correctly, is stamped on the case below the differential. Lots of different Porsche books break these numbers down, but as a quick reference, /06 and /12 are four speeds. Porsche started using the 911 trans in 1970, and the 915 in 1972. E-mail me directly if you have a trans number and I'll try to decode it for you. Todsimpson@aol.com |

The book is the "911 tech specifications" and is sold by all the major mail order places. I no longer have the book, I sold it mith my car. It would tell you all the ratios for your trans, and a bunch of other technical information. It's a small pocket sized book, definitely worth $15 or so.
