dropping in a 6 cylinder
I have a 68 912 and am getting sick of how little torque it has compared to the 911. I am contimplating buying a 911 engine to replace the flat 4. Does any body have any recommendations for getting more torque out of the car, with or without buying a new engine.

If you're a purist, you may not be interested in this, but have you considered swapping in a VW type 1 motor? I bought my '66 912 with a VW motor already in it, and decided to keep it after I finish the restoration/upgrade. VW motors can be built to produce more torque and hp than the 356/912 motor a lot cheaper-and they pretty much bolt in. You have to fabricate a rear engine mount, but the trans has the same bolt pattern, and the starter gear meshes with the VW ring gear on the (12v) flywheel. I'm enlarging mine to 2100 cc and am shooting for 150 hp. Just a thought for your consideration.

Another not-for-the-purists route is to leapfrog the 911 crowd altogether, and drop in a small block Chevy V8. You can have 350 hp and more torque than any 911 six-cylinder turbo could reasonably hope for. They do it at:
