Looking for Early 911/912 Pedal Cluster Part

Would anyone who has or knows someone that has an early 911/912 (pre 1974) Parts Car please email me off list. I need the part from the pedal cluster in the floor board that the gas pedal and its adjusting rod attaches to.

This is the pivot piece that the gas pedal connecting rod and the throttle linkage in the tunnel attach to; it pivots in the pedal cluster. Mine was bent toward and the tunnel and the tunnel was preventing the throttle from its full range of motion, allowing only about half throttle. I got down in there today and tried to bend it back into its proper orientation, and it just snapped in half. I pulled the cotter pin out of the shaft and removed both pieces to find that a previous owner had broken it in the past and reattached it with a blob of something that looked like JB Weld or Liquid Metal.

My 67 912 is out of commission till I find a replacement part. I'll be heading down to Heishman's in Alexandria, VA tomorrow to see if the part is something that is still available, but a used one from a parts car would work fine. Please let me know.

TIA,
Rich Franco

Holy cow man! Thats weird. Heh, I bought a 69 912 last week and it had the exact same problem. The lever (real name = DEFLECTION LEVER) was bent and it was hitting the floor making it only go half throttle. And I tried to bend it back and the thing just snapped off. So thanks to the help of the 911 Forum I found out what the part number was and orderd one last week from Stoddard.

I recived it today and it looks so much more durable than the last one (then again the last one was 30+ years old, hehe) but anyways:

The part number is: 901.423.250.02

I orderd mine from:
http://www.*************/

The price was $33.40

Kind expensive but it;s worth it to fix this problem

While I am replacing it I am also going ahead and rebuilding the entire pedal cluster with new bushings and all.

You may also want to replace the ball cup on the end of the rod that hooks to the lever because over time they get some pretty bad slack in them. If you want one of those:

The number is: 900.169.001.02

They are only like $2.50 so I'd get one of those to. (I bought 4 just so I'd have some spares)

If there is anything else I can help you with then just let me know. My 912 is a 69 but I think all these parts are the exact same. Us 912 folks have to stick together

Later

Wow, that is too weird. Thanks for the great info. By the way, the real story behind my broken "deflector lever" goes like this...

I was doing my first ever autocross with PCA Potomac last Sunday (4/8). I made it thru the morning session (3 runs) and was really coming up to the top of steep part of the learning curve. I couldn't wait to get back on course after the lunch break.

Back in line after lunch, I get the thumbs up, launch, and was really going for it. I mean to tell you that I was really getting some, at least until the gas pedal stuck in the floored position; whohooooo! I thought fast and clicked off the ignition... lucky I was just coming into the final straightaway at the end of the course and not in a turn.

I got some help, pushed the car clear of the course, removed the floorboard and there it was, the deflection lever was pushed under and trapped by the tunnel. I guess I really stompped on the gas pedal comming out of that last turn (I told you I was a novice) and the pressure was too much and it bent the lever, but not totally snapped. I pried it out from under the tunnel thinking I fixed the problem only to find during the next run that I was only getting half throttle. I left well enough alone and not only drove the rest of the afternoon runs with half throttle, I drove it home that way too. Lucky for me because yesterday after work, I went in back in there to see if I could bend the lever just a little futher, and that's when it snapped at that nasty gloppy mess of what looked like Liquid Steel or JB Weld.

Had the lever snapped in half at the autocross, I would have been looking at a 40 mile tow home.... not cool at all. A very knowledgable club member told me that he'd had lots of experience with early cars and didn't know what was worse, stuck floored gas pedal or loss of brakes. For my money, I'll take the stuck gas pedal any day!

Cheers,
Rich Franco
