Undercoating for fender wells

Have 76 912E. No rust, but looking to clean and recondition inner fenders. Is there an original OEM paint to use? Do you sand or scrub with 3M pads. I am open to advice and other's experience. Thx, dhg

how bad is it inside the fender? what is your intent? if is for concourse show you really need expert advise... but if it is for protection I will use a pressure wash specially inside the fenderwell and headlamp area, after that remove any rust with a small drill wire brush and then use POR 15, this stuff is awsome!

AirJose,

Thanks for your reply. I took a start at this over the weekend. Used Simple Green and a toothbrush. The results were amazing. The fenderwells returned to their original color. Did locate some minor rust in the right front fenderwell at the small brace where it meets the trunk, just to the left of the horn mount. Overall, it was a great result. More than I expected. My intent is not to show, but as an occasional warmer weather driver. Car is is exceptional condition for a 25 year old. I have it put away for the winter, that is why I am cleaning. I am yet unsure if whether I will undercoat/paint after I have cleaned entirely or not. I am open to advice. Thanks again for your reply.

After you scrap off old u/c, wirebrush and sand lightly with 180 grit.Treat any rust with OSPHO (try welding supply store also called metal prep).let it sit for a couple of days.Locate a paint store who can get MASTERCHEM Hammerite Smooth Finish #46240 their phone is 1-800-325-3552. If you spray mix 60/40 Xylene as thinner.Spray thin coats allow thirty minutes between each coat, clean spray gun nozzel as paint will dry in gun between coats. Use four coats.allow two weeks drying time.then if you need more paint spray it on.After the paint has dried about thirty days spray with Schotz undercoating.Steve any questions steve@914underground.com
