solex carb problem
greetings,
i have a 69 912 with the stock solex carbs. the original problam i had was inability of the car to idle. i rebuilt the carbs myself but this did not fix the problem. i had them professionally rebuilt which did fix the idle but now they backfire up through the carbs during acceleration. i have taken it back to the guy who rebuilt them and he seems unable to remedy this problem. the valves, and timing are correct, compression around 120-140 for all cylinders. new points and condensor in the distributor, new plugs and wires. any ideas on how i can stop this would be greatly appreciated. thanks [This message has been edited by confusa (edited 12-23-2000).] |

The usual things to check:
1. Carbs are balanced and in synch. 2. You have the split shafts and may need to adjust the front to rear. 3. Too rich or lean can cause popping. 4. Check your linkage for binding. If one side is hanging you will cause an inbalance. Make sure they are pulling eveningly. 5. Check for leaks in the intake manifolds (base of carbs and spacers, you should have a gasket above and below the spacer). 6. Check one more time the ignition wires. Make sure they are connected correctly and in the right order. Jones Low 69-912 |
