Sounds interesting. Having just spent $6000 on a rebuild on my '67 .... how much power in that sub-boxer and how much $$.

I'm looking for a buyer for the 912 mill...1300 bucks...it needs the top end redone, and after 147k probably a good going through. the p's and c's are only about 5000 miles old.
The subaru 1.8 gets me 10 hp, but only cost me 175 bucks with the ECU. NOW...here's the killer part. the 1.8 is known in scooby world as an EJ block. EJ18 to be exact. EJ blocks are the basis for ALL 4 cylinder subaru motors from about 1991 on. with the second two numbers as the displacement and the "T" moniker being a turbo block here's ALL my "bolt in" options. EJ18. 110 hp, what I got EJ22. 130 hp, not a bad little mill EJ25. 165 hp, Legacies and RS imprezas got it, 2 cam and 4 cam variations EJ22T. 130 hp. Early 90's legacy turbo motor. Very special closed deck design with EJ25 heads and a big turbo can make 400 daily driver hp. Not as rare as you'd think. EJ20T. 227 hp. WRX motor. Boostable to mid 3's. EJ25T. 300 hp. WRX STi motor, Forester XT motor, BAJA turbo motor, Detuned for the last two to only 250 hp. can make 450 no prob. EXPENSIVE....at least for a couple years. big D, write me for details or my number if you're interested.... steved033 at comcast dt. net

Alt engine
Very interested. Saw these motors on ice boats on Lake Erie. Do you use porsche trans.? Is there an adapter plate of some kind. Whose flywheel. Tell me more. Maybe if there were some options we wouldn't be paying 395 for main bearings. Thanks DG

Yes, please post more info. Where do you put the radiator, considering the Scooby engines are water cooled? How hard is the install? Engine mounts, transmission issues, etc.
There is a place that makes 356 kit cars with the Scooby engine, but I can't remember where I saw it.

yeah, I'm getting the adapter plate from kennedy engineering. www.kennedyeng.com 440 for the plate, and you supply them the 914 flywheel. it adapts the back of the subaru motor to the front of the 901, 915, G50 trans...I think they make them one at a time.
basically I think they make a central piece that mounts to the scooby motor and hone out the 914 fly. Jegs has a 26x19 rad...i'm going to mount it in the back, and duct through my 964 (motorized wing) decklid...a pusher fan should take care of the rest. the only thing to worry about is the tach signal...I'll figure out how it's read by subaru, and either adapt the signal, or tap it in a new way, as there's no distributor for EJ motors. i'm still waiting for the adapter to get here. i'll be sure to take lots of pics, and I'm doing a writeup for the 912 registry newsletter. sjd

in addition, i have to run a return line to the fuel tank (which may become a cell), and I may have some clearance issues with the oilpan and the ground...(That's bad).

Does the subaru motor have a mounting braket for the rear. Is there a place for one. Arn't those motors front wheel drive. So many questions. I just can't wait. Thanks DG

FWD or AWD...the motor turns the same direction, that's all that matters.
as for the mounting bracket, I'm building a "cradle" that extends from the trans mount forward, it'll have little tabs that mount with the rear bolts, it'll pick up the factory mounts, then bendupward to catch the factory engine mounts...it'd be even easier in a 911, because the engine mounts are farther back. ideas for mounting the engine backwards are at www.nsiaero.com I hear they have a dry sump system for EJ motors. the rad is easily available at jegs for 189 bucks. 26x19, made for ford V8's...I can make lots of heat now.I'm going to make a loop for the heater core to begin with...I'll figure that one out later. sjd
