When it rains it pours - engine oil leak under blower
I've got a very fast engine oil leak coming from under the blower housing where I cannot see. Any ideas? Can the blower housing be removed without dropping the engine?
Thanks, Tom 69 912 targa |

Sounds like the oil cooler seals, you will need to remove the engine to remove the blower housing. Then remove the oil cooler and replace the seals. I don,t want to worry you but I had the same problem on my car and I finally traced the fault to a crack in the crank case around the base of the oil cooler mounting flange.

I had the same problem; cracked block at the oil cooler tower stand; thought it was the seals, replaced them, reinstalled the engine and still leaked; the only way to fix is a new block or an expertly ground out and welded up block, full rebuild either way
![]() You need to lower the engine remove the shroud and run for a min or two(engine will heat up fast with no dog house on it so 1-2 min is all you want to run) check for oil coming out at the base of the tower; this area is prone to stress cracking and unfortunately the main bearing supply galley runs right under this area on its way to the cooler! good luck |

I was able to lower the engine a tad, remove blower housing and restart it. Oil came from middle of cooler where it was rusted. Will get new cooler from Harry Pellow. Thanks for everybody's suggestions.
