engine starting

I have a 66 912 which is seldom driven and has not been driven in some months. I t was hard starting and I cleaned the plugs. It started, but a lot of smoke came out of the carb on the drivers side. A friend tells me I may have the plug wires reversed.

However, i checked ina book and they look right. If i reverse either side i will have the short ones in the back whcih doesn't make sense. Any ideas?

Does it run ok now? 912's are hard to start when not driven for a long period of time. The carb spitting is normal for most 912's if they havent been driven. The order of spark plug wires sound correct so I wouldn't worry. I just think that it was a cause of sitting too long. http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif
