Post cylinder installation

Hi,
I,m working on my first rebuild and it's time to reinstall the pistons and cylinders.
I have a ring compressor and have the first piston installed in the cylinder and the rod is connected to the piston. I now have to push cylinder to the case, but the oil-ring has to be compressed to move the cylinder in. With the head studs installed in the case, I cannot use the ring compressor. How do you compress the oil ring so the cylinder can be put in place?
Any advice is appreciated!

There are special ring compressors available for VW and Porsche flat 4 engines. You could a VW specialist. Alternativly you can use a large (Jubalee)hose clip and clamp it round each ring in turn. It work realy well.

Thanks for the advice John.
I love an excuse to buy a new tool. The VW band style ring compressor made the job easy. I would not have thought that it would be possible to remove the ring compressor with the piston and cylinder in place. It's a tight fit, but it comes out.
Thanks Again.
Adam.
