Hello all...
I recently purchased a '67 to use as as an engine donor for my '69. The engine supposedly had very low miles, and by all appearances this seems to be the case. But - it appears to have excessive endplay (.0013" were spec I believe is .005"-.0087"). This was measured flywheel to case, with a dial indicator. Pretty confidant in the reading. Any suggestions? Is this enough of an issue that I should break down the engine to fix? (I fear this is one of those times you have an equal chance of making things worse as you do to making them better...). Thanks Chris Also - I will be parting out the '67 shortly. I am in San Diego and will sell whats left over cheap... |

It all depends if the endplay is caused by incorrect flywheel shimming or the thrust bearing is moving in the case. You will need the remove the flywheel and increase the shim thickness by the 0.013" and refit the fly wheel. If you still have endplay then the thrust bearing is moving in the case. If there is no endplay then the shimming wash incorrect and you will need to recalculate the shim thickness that you require. If it is the bearing moving in the case then it's not good news!
