I removed all of it. Allergic to horses. I sealed in POR-15, respray a close approx. to original color, extra layer of padding and it works fine.

not great. Done it w/a VW before and the results is not as firm. Use the original horsehair (using some hand gloves for touching the mess). After removing the horsehair, over the springs, place a sheet of burlap, insure that is fairly stretched over the spring area (use some cord and sew the corners, spray some 3M glue over the burlap and place the horsehair, spray some more glue over the horsehair and protect it with the original padding or burlap. Use foam only after using the original padding. The result is a very firm and original seat. If you use only foam the springs will cut the foam little by little and soon your seat will bottom out; and you simply wasted your time! Good Luck.
