I have replaced the original '68 901 trans in my 912 with a '72 915 (along with a number of other upgrades). My quandry is that the bolt pattern for the 915 stub axles is larger than the original 901 stub axles. At first glance, it appeared that the 901 stub axles have the same shaft size and retaining bolt, and indeed it's very close, but there is a small amount of play after the 901 stub axles are installed in the 915. My intended solution is to use the 915 stub axles on the trans and the original style '68 CV on the trailing arm side. So my question is, will the '72 915 CV joint fit on my original '68 901 axle shaft? If the splines on the axles shaft and the CV are compatable, I will use the '72 CV on the inside, and the '68 on the outside. Any thoughts on whether this is possible?

I haven't done this but did see a '67 912 with a +200hp VW and 915 tranny installed. The owner told me he fabricated the axles in his shop combining the two. He said he cut the flanges off both and then welded the two together that he needed to make it work. His welding skill is obviously better then mine! Good Luck.

I spoke with Craig Watkins and SmartRacing and he tells me that I can there are 3 spline counts used on Porsche axles and I can mix and match depending on which one I have (typically for my year, 28.) He also feels that the stubaxles should be interchangeable so I may be ok as it is. It looks like I am just going to have to get a later CV and give it a shot. Thanks!
