...so I may put a 2109 VW engine in the 912 and sell the 912 motor. There's nothing wrong with the 912 motor; its got Weber 40s with a Bursch exhaust, and got a tuneup and valve adjustment around 500 miles ago. Around 18K on the rebuild done by the PO. (This motor came from my parts car). But I can't afford to make it faster. I could do some headwork myself but beyond that its some serious money. It will almost cost the same as a 911. VW horsepower is cheap, I know where I can get an engine, and other than the wiring for the alternator is a straight bolt in.
Any thoughts/comments? |

Keep the 912 motor. I would wait for finances to come amd then buy a VW motor. Latter on you might be able to afford to tweek the 912 motor and if you ever sell the car it would be worth more with the 912 motor.

I agree with Josh, keep the 912 motor, use the VW motor to save wearing out the 912 motor. If you ever want the sell the car it will sell for much more with the correct engine in it.

Hello
Can you explain faster ? A 912 is not intentet as a race car and buying a 912 says stick to what it is or move on to a other car. There is no 100 HP type 1 engine that can keep up with your 912 in reliability, drivabilyty and some other things. The type 1 is cheap power as many people buy them and replace them on a regulary basis. Many suplieres and buyers lower the prices and the parts come from brazil or somwhere behind africa where slavery is still a good payed income. None off them will have solid 100 HP like the 912 that will be able to run down a german highway flat out pushed to the limit until you have to refuel. There are some engines out there but they cost more then a 912 engine. In germany most 912 engines where used in beetles as they are cheaper then upgrading a type 1 or to a type 4. The only limit is that they are not allowed on 1969 on cars. If you look around at the Type 1 tuners you will find the best engines feature Porsche parts and scat even copied the 3 piece case for there high power upgrades. If you try to improve a 912 engine you need better parts then Porsche made back then, but most tuning stuff in the US is close to carbidge killing a good engine. The only way for a resonabel powered engine is swaping to a type 4 with can be boostet to easy 130 HP. A 912 engine can be pushed to the same level but will not have the same pricelevel and also not the same drivability. Now with the limitet suppley on 356/912 engines, used up in beetles and crashed by people trying to squezze out some more ponys those engines get rare and the price will go up. If you are realy looking for more power then stick a corvair or something else in there. A good SBC is cheaper the a standard type 1. Grüsse |

I am replacing the 912 motor in a 68 912 with a 2056cc (96x71) or a 2165cc (94x78). Steve |
