Your 4th gear will take you to 97 mph at 5000 rpm, 117 at 6000 rpm, and 136 at 7000 rpm with 195/60 tires.
It will interesting to see what good 1st gear is with that much torque. You can probably leave in second.
Both the transmissions have the same 1st and 5th gears. 1st is an A gear and 4th/5th is an X. You can really dial this car in if you want to since you have room to change throughout.
A ring and pinion change might be helpful. It all depends on what you want to do with the car.
Good Luck, JMB

mein12, are you looking at a chart for the tranny gears??? cuz the chart diagram for a Porsche 4 speed type 902/01 and 902/0 says the same here and same tire size also...
if I want the 327 Im gonna put in it to be at 2500rpms at 70 mph...what gear ratio do I need??? Im tired of punk kids in civic reving there little 4 bangers and beating me, its too expensive to modify or buy another Porsche engine so Im just going with a V8 conversion from Renegade Hybrids....do you know where I can get a 915 Transaxle or a 930 Transaxle...from 72-77

What are ya all thinking.....

I'm not sure how old you all are, myself I'm in my 40's, I've wanted a 911 (didn't even know what a 912 was) for 25 years, but then I was in high school then and who could afford one?

Anyhow today I run a succesful business and thought I deserved that 911. I started looking at the mid 80's, really like the looks of those, then I remembered my youth, and started looking at older 911's. One day I came accross a 912, and thought wow, what a great idea same car simpler engine design, less maintenance, just as much fun to drive. I looked at several and ended up buying a '67 that had had the engine slightly modified. After all I was looking for daily transportation, not a race car. And I do use this car as daily transportation - rain or shine!

As for speed it does ok, but my wife's Dodge Neon Sport with it's 150hp DOHC 16 valve engine will kick it's but, but who cares mine still looks better.

There's a lot of cars out there like my wife's Neon with +30 years more technology in them, which will also translate into stop light performance that will kick your bot also, but again, who cares. With the classic looks of my 912 and the ability to take square corners, I couldn't be happier.

I think if you want to beat everything out there you'll have to get a 911, or look to 60's american muscle cars, it's gonna cost ya though. I know I've owned over a dozen 1st generation Camaros, loved everyone of them, just like the Dodge Dart Swingers, Pontiac GTO's and all of the other cars I've owned over the years. But for daily driveability, the 912 isn't the fastest in the bunch, but it is certainly the most fun car I've ever owned. And actually quite econimical to maintain.

Well, that's my .02 worth, it's all perspective, did you get the car for you or the other guy.......

Just go out and drive 'em they're a lot of fun.

Hi guys,
I was just giving the information requested. I have no desire to ever convert one of my 912's. I am an older guy who has owned many cars including 3 porsches.
I prefer my 912 with it's original, but modified powerplant.
My car has 130 reliable horespower and a 7000 rpm redline. The brakes and suspension are modified as well.
In race trim I had 165 HP and often reved close to 8000 rpm.
In any case, some people like to play harder and that's OK. I have modified other vehicles.
My Dodge Dakota had 1200 miles on it when I pulled the tranny to do a shift kit. Then came the Blower and Viper Brakes that will go on later this month.
It's fun to play. I wish the renegade V8 installer all the luck. Just don't cut it up too much. It might be worth something someday. Regards, JMB

Ender,

Of course I am looking at a gear chart. Only a weirdo or technician would have all that memorized.
You do not need a 915 or 930 trans to do the swap. That 902 trans will handle 350 hp. I doubt that you will have that much HP with your 327 on pump gas.
Your goal of 70 mph at 2500 rpm is unrealistic. Just shift.
If you thought it would cost too much to make power with the 912 motor, wait until you start playing with tranny gears. You'll wish you had left it alone.
You should have no problem reaching really dangerous speeds quickly with your V8.
225 hp should put your car in the 13's at the 1/4 mile. Again good luck, JMB...

I still have another question though, what do you think my top speed will be at. Using moderate RPMs. As far as I know a 327 isnt really meant for high reving. The Redline might be at 5 or 6000. So what do you think?

Enders,

Your the one that's going to determine the rpm range of you motor. If you are going to throw an unidentified or junkyard motor in this car you are not going about things in a logical manner.
A 327 or any other early smallblock chevy can be built to turn 7000 rpm, but you will not need that. 5500 rpm is a realistic redline for a basic smallblock.
This endeavour will no doubt cost as much or more than a good 912 rebuild.
Again, good luck. JMB...

Hello

Most 901/902 have the "X" gear as highest. This is a 24 x 28. This setup will have 100 km/h at 3000/min and 200 km/h at 6000/min.

The 195/60/15 are low profil and will roll less for rev. Typical rolldiameter is around 1875 mm
Stock is 165/82/15 or 185/70/15 with is 1950 mm per turn.
If you change to 205/70/15 on the rear you make 2050 per turn. This will give something like 220 km/h at 6000/min.

Rerquarding the american streets and your background ( cheap fast power ) together with the small brakes the 120 mph are good enough for most races especially if you hit them after 15 secounds.

grüsse

BTW you will find a trany chart in the tech section. Postet by Warren S as exxel files.
